The company operates a fleet of company-owned trucks and also brokers loads through a network of independent owner-operators and carrier partners, giving it the flexibility to scale capacity to meet customer demand. Position Summary The CEO is responsible for the overall strategic direction, financial performance, and operational execution of the company. This role oversees two connected business lines: the company's owned trucking fleet and its freight brokerage operations. The CEO sets company strategy, builds and leads the executive team, manages key customer and carrier relationships, and ensures the company operates safely, profitably, and in compliance with all applicable regulations. Key Responsibilities Strategy and Growth Set the company's overall vision, growth strategy, and annual business goals Identify new markets, customers, and service lines across both hauling and brokerage operations Evaluations opportunities for fleet expansion, equipment purchases, or acquisitions Build relationships with general contractors, developers, aggregate producers, and municipalities Fleet and Brokerage Operations Oversee dispatch, routing, and utilization of company-owned trucks to maximize revenue per truck Oversee the brokerage side of the business, including carrier recruiting, vetting, and load assignment Set policies for when loads are hauled with company assets versus brokered to outside carriers Monitor fleet maintenance, replacement cycles, and equipment purchasing decisions Ensure DOT, FMCSA, and state-level compliance for both owned trucks and brokered freight, including broker authority (MC number) and insurance requirements Financial Management Own the company's P&L, including revenue, cost per mile, fuel costs, and margin across both business lines Approve budgets, capital expenditures, and major contracts Work with finance and accounting staff or outside providers to ensure accurate job costing, invoicing, and cash flow management Review financial reports regularly and adjust strategy as needed Team Leadership Hire, develop, and lead a management team covering dispatch, safety, maintenance, and administration Set a strong safety culture across drivers, owner-operators, and staff Establish performance standards and accountability across the organization Sales and Customer Relationships Serve as the face of the company with major customers and strategic partners Negotiate key contracts and pricing agreements Represent the company in industry associations and local business community Qualifications 7 or more years of experience in trucking, hauling, construction materials, or freight brokerage, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role Working knowledge of both asset-based trucking operations and freight brokerage Familiarity with FMCSA and DOT regulations for motor carriers and brokers Strong financial acumen, including P&L management and cost-per-mile analysis Proven ability to lead teams and manage through dispatchers, drivers, and back-office staff Experience with trucking or brokerage software (TMS, ELD systems, load boards) preferred Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience Key Attributes Hands-on leadership style comfortable in both the office and the yard Strong negotiator with customers, carriers, and vendors Decisive under pressure, particularly around scheduling, weather, and equipment downtime Committed to safety and regulatory compliance Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, physically demanding industry Compensation Competitive base salary commensurate with experience, plus performance-based bonus tied to company profitability.
