Job Description
The Canon to the Ordinary or Chief Operating Officer may be ordained or lay. The position is the primary counsel and advisor to the Bishop on all matters pertaining to the operation of the Diocese, its 20 active congregations, and Diocese-related institutions, such as social service organizations and social action ministries. With the Bishop and Diocese, help vision and plan for the continued flourishing and future growth in spreading the Good News of Christ; Liaise with Diocesan commissions and committees, including Diocesan Council, Standing Committee, Commission on Ministry, and outreach and social action ministries; Organize Diocesan calendars, in conjunction with the diocesan administrator; Help develop annual Diocesan budgets and regular budget reviews with the Treasurer and Diocesan Council; Oversee with the Bishop, Commission on Ministry, and congregations, the training, ordination, deployment, and discipline of clergy and lay leaders in churches and ministries; Assist with planning church plants; Oversee payroll, invoices, assessments, etc., in conjunction with the Treasurer and Diocesan accountant; Regular church visitations; Preaching, and presiding in churches across the Diocese (if CTO); Regular travel throughout the Diocese and outside of the Diocese for Episcopal Church trainings and conferences, as a representative of the Diocese; Other duties, as assigned.
