Position Summary The Vice President of Operations is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across C&J Equipment Manufacturing's manufacturing, fabrication, production, facilities, and operational support functions. This executive will lead the development and execution of a scalable operating strategy that supports C&J's continued rapid growth while maintaining the company's standards for safety, quality, productivity, delivery, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. The VP of Operations will work closely with executive leadership, Engineering, Project Management, Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Production leadership to ensure that customer projects move efficiently from engineering and planning through fabrication, assembly, inspection, and delivery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing executive who understands steel fabrication, welding, modular manufacturing, production management, continuous improvement, workforce development, and the challenges associated with scaling a high-volume operation. Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Leadership Provide executive leadership for day-to-day manufacturing and production operations. Develop and execute an operations strategy aligned with C&J's long-term growth objectives. Establish clear operating priorities, performance expectations, accountability systems, and management routines. Ensure production capacity, staffing, equipment, materials, and facilities are aligned with customer demand. Develop standardized processes and operating systems that can scale with company growth. Identify operational constraints and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and reliability. Establish clear ownership and accountability throughout the operations organization. Manufacturing & Production Oversee fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, material handling, painting, yard operations, and related production activities. Improve production flow, labor utilization, equipment utilization, and overall manufacturing efficiency. Establish and monitor production schedules and capacity requirements. Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within established quality standards, and at targeted costs. Partner with Engineering and Project Management to resolve design, fabrication, scheduling, and production issues. Develop processes that improve communication between engineering/design teams and the manufacturing floor. Evaluate production bottlenecks and implement solutions to increase capacity. Continuous Improvement Develop a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization. Implement Lean Manufacturing and process-improvement methodologies where appropriate. Establish measurable KPIs for safety, quality, productivity, schedule performance, labor efficiency, scrap, rework, and cost. Use operational data to identify trends, improve decision-making, and drive accountability. Standardize successful processes across departments and facilities. Reduce waste, rework, downtime, and unnecessary movement of labor and materials. Safety & Quality Make employee safety a fundamental operating priority. Partner with safety leadership to reduce incidents and strengthen safety practices. Ensure production processes comply with applicable safety, quality, welding, fabrication, and customer requirements. Establish accountability for quality at every stage of manufacturing. Reduce defects, rework, warranty issues, and production escapes. Promote a culture in which employees are empowered and expected to identify and correct problems. Leadership & Workforce Development Lead, mentor, and develop operations managers, production managers, supervisors, and other operational leaders. Build a strong leadership pipeline capable of supporting C&J's rapid expansion. Establish clear expectations and performance standards for operations leadership. Identify high-potential employees and create opportunities for advancement. Support workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention. Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Maintain strong communication and visibility throughout the organization. Financial & Business Management Develop and manage operating budgets. Monitor labor costs, overtime, material utilization, production efficiency, and operating expenses. Identify opportunities to improve margins through productivity, process improvement, capacity utilization, and cost control. Partner with executive leadership on capital expenditure planning. Develop business cases for new equipment, automation, technology, facilities, and other operational investments. Balance production requirements with financial objectives and customer commitments. Capacity & Growth Develop operational plans capable of supporting significant increases in production volume. Forecast future labor, equipment, facility, technology, and infrastructure requirements. Lead operational readiness for new programs, customers, facilities, equipment, and production capabilities. Develop contingency plans for labor shortages, supply-chain disruptions, equipment failures, and production constraints. Ensure growth does not compromise safety, quality, delivery, or company culture. Cross-Functional Leadership Work closely with Engineering and Design to improve manufacturability and production efficiency. Partner with Project Management to establish realistic production schedules and customer commitments. Coordinate with Supply Chain and Purchasing to ensure materials are available when required. Partner with Quality to establish and maintain production quality standards. Work with Maintenance to maximize equipment availability and reliability. Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, employee development, and organizational structure. Provide executive leadership with accurate operational reporting and recommendations. Key Performance Indicators The VP of Operations will be accountable for measurable improvement in areas including: Safety performance On-time delivery Production throughput Labor productivity Capacity utilization Schedule adherence Quality and first-pass yield Rework and scrap Equipment uptime Overtime Cost per unit/project Employee retention Leadership development Customer satisfaction Operating margin Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Business, or a related field preferred. 10+ years of progressive manufacturing or operations leadership experience. Significant experience leading large-scale fabrication, manufacturing, industrial, energy, structural steel, modular construction, or comparable operations. Demonstrated experience managing multiple departments and developing management teams. Strong understanding of welding, steel fabrication, manufacturing processes, and production environments. Demonstrated success improving productivity, quality, safety, delivery, and cost performance. Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing or other continuous-improvement methodologies. Strong financial, analytical, and business-management skills. Proven ability to lead organizational growth and operational transformation. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment.
