Job Summary seeking its next Chief Operating Officer as part of a planned leadership succession. Our current COO will retire in March 2027 after 41 years with the company, allowing us to create a thoughtful transition period for the incoming leader. SWF is an established and growing custom metal fabrication and industrial installation company. The next COO will have the opportunity to build on a strong foundation while helping us continue to improve our leaders, systems, accountability, and operational execution. This is an on-site executive leadership role based in South Central Pennsylvania, with regular presence across SWF facilities and field operations. This is not a turnaround role. It is an opportunity to help lead the next stage of SWF's growth. The Role Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the COO is the senior executive responsible for translating company strategy into predictable operating execution. The COO will provide leadership across: Fabrication / Shop Operations Field Operations Project Management Detailing Quality Maintenance Operational resource and capacity management Cross-functional project execution Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, and develop the leaders responsible for SWF's operating functions. Drive consistent execution across Shop, Field, Project Management, Detailing, Quality, and Maintenance. Strengthen planning, scheduling, resource allocation, capacity management, project performance, and operational accountability. Identify recurring operating problems and build sustainable processes and systems to address them. Make sound day-to-day operating decisions while appropriately elevating major business, capital, leadership, and enterprise-risk decisions. Understand and manage the relationship between labor performance, productivity, schedule, capacity, quality, customer commitments, operating risk, and margin. Build leadership depth and create an environment where managers make increasingly complex decisions independently. Partner with the President/CEO as a trusted operating and strategic thought partner. Work collaboratively with Finance, HR, Safety, Estimating, Sales, and other company functions. Reinforce SWF's safety expectations throughout operations in partnership with the President/CEO and Safety team. Continue improving SWF's operating systems, technology, metrics, and management practices while preserving the culture and relationships that make the company successful.

Strong candidates will bring:

Approximately 10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience. Significant experience leading managers and multiple operating functions. Experience in fabrication, manufacturing, industrial construction, specialty contracting, industrial services, or a comparable labor-intensive operating environment. Demonstrated success developing leaders and building organizational depth. Strong operational judgment and decision-making ability. Experience improving processes, operating systems, accountability, or continuous improvement practices. Strong business and financial acumen, including an understanding of labor, productivity, capacity, project or production performance, and operational economics. The ability to remain calm, consistent, and effective under pressure. Strong communication skills across frontline employees, managers, executives, customers, and ownership. A leadership style built around character, accountability, humility, trust, and respect for people. A previous COO title is not required. We are open to both proven executives and high-potential senior operating leaders who are ready to step into broader enterprise responsibility. A bachelor's degree in business, operations, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent senior operating experience will also be considered.
