Job Description:
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and strategic Regional Executive Director to oversee operations for three behavioral health treatment centers throughout the state of Virginia. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, financial performance, program growth, and strong community partnerships across multiple facilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive multi-site behavioral health operations experience within Virginia and a strong understanding of state licensing requirements, Medicaid, Joint Commission standards, and behavioral healthcare regulations. This individual must be a hands-on leader capable of driving organizational growth while maintaining exceptional quality of care and operational efficiency. The Regional Executive Director will partner closely with executive leadership, facility leadership teams, state agencies, referral partners, and community stakeholders to support continued expansion and long-term success throughout the region. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Provide executive oversight for three behavioral health treatment centers throughout Virginia Ensure all facilities operate efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements Drive operational consistency, accountability, and performance across all locations Monitor census, staffing, budgets, KPIs, and overall operational performance Support Executive Directors and facility leadership teams with day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives Develop and implement operational improvements, SOPs, and best practices across all programs Compliance & Regulatory Oversight Ensure compliance with Virginia state regulations, licensing requirements, Medicaid standards, and Joint Commission standards Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and accreditation surveys Oversee policy implementation and risk management initiatives Partner with clinical and compliance teams to ensure quality assurance and patient safety standards are consistently met Stay informed on changing state and federal regulations impacting behavioral healthcare operations Strategic Growth & Development Assist with new facility openings, expansions, and operational buildouts throughout Virginia Collaborate with executive leadership on regional growth strategies and market development initiatives Identify opportunities for operational enhancements, program expansion, and increased market presence Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of high-performing leadership teams Leadership & Team Development Provide mentorship, coaching, and leadership development for Executive Directors and department leaders Foster a positive and collaborative culture focused on accountability, compassion, and excellence Lead regional meetings, performance reviews, and leadership initiatives Ensure strong communication and alignment between corporate leadership and facility teams Community & Government Relations Maintain and strengthen relationships with state agencies, local officials, community organizations, hospitals, referral sources, and other strategic partners Represent the organization at industry events, networking functions, and community meetings Utilize existing relationships within Virginia to support facility growth and community engagement efforts Serve as a liaison between the organization and local/state stakeholders when necessary Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Behavioral Health, or related field preferred Minimum of 7+ years of senior leadership experience in behavioral health or healthcare operations Prior multi-unit or regional leadership experience required Extensive knowledge of Virginia behavioral health regulations, licensing standards, and Medicaid programs Strong understanding of Joint Commission standards and compliance requirements Experience overseeing inpatient and/or outpatient behavioral health treatment programs preferred Proven experience with new facility openings, operational scaling, and strategic growth initiatives Existing relationships with Virginia state agencies, community organizations, referral partners, and/or local political stakeholders strongly preferred Strong financial acumen and experience managing operational budgets and KPIs Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to travel regularly throughout Virginia as needed Preferred Experience Experience within substance abuse and mental health treatment settings Experience overseeing multiple levels of care including Detox, Residential, PHP, IOP, and OP programs Experience working with Medicaid-funded programs and state-funded services Proven success building and developing high-performing leadership teams
