Grants & Contracts Specialist I Sponsored Projects Accounting - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005775) Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA) provides post award financial management for the University's sponsored research portfolio, currently totaling approximately $1.3 billion in active federal and non-federal awards. SPA operates under a full lifecycle model, with staff managing awards from activation through closeout, and is organized under the Controller's Office. The department is responsible for financial compliance, reporting, subrecipient monitoring, and effort reporting in accordance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and Cost Accounting Standards. Job Summary Performs post-award accounting duties for small grants and contracts. Monitors account activity and prepares routine financial reports. Assists with policy and procedure interpretation and government report preparation. Essential Functions Activates new sponsored awards in the Oracle financial system, setting up account structures in accordance with sponsor terms and University policy. Performs ongoing financial maintenance on active awards, including amendments, renewals, extensions, and other modifications throughout the life of the project. Prepares and submits periodic reimbursement invoices and financial reports to sponsoring agencies in accordance with award terms and reporting deadlines. Monitors the financial progress of assigned projects throughout the full award life cycle, identifying and resolving discrepancies between award terms and account activity. Serves as the financial intermediary between sponsoring agencies and University Principal Investigators or Project Directors, communicating award requirements and resolving financial questions. Performs financial close-out of completed awards, reconciling final expenditures and ensuring compliance with sponsor and University closeout requirements. Utilizes automated accounting systems, Excel, and related databases to manage award data and prepare financial documentation.
