The Manager of Health Information Management (HIM) leads facility HIM operations and assigned staff to ensure accurate, timely, compliant management of patient health information. This role drives continuous improvement, strengthens client relationships, and is accountable for customer service, quality, financial, and operational performance measures. The Manager provides coaching to facility-based leaders and employees while fostering a transparent, inclusive, and patient-centric culture.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead, coach, and develop facility supervisors and HIM staff to achieve service, quality, productivity, and financial goals Monitor performance against client and Optum key performance indicators and Service Level Agreement commitments; develop corrective action plans when results fall below target Ensure accurate and timely patient health information workflows through routine audits, compliance reviews, and quality assurance activities Lead customer and client experience improvement initiatives, evaluate survey feedback, and implement measurable interventions to address barriers Provide facility-level oversight for HIM and related revenue cycle performance improvement processes Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that improve operational efficiency and support regulatory compliance Interview, select, onboard, schedule, engage, and develop employees while promoting retention, inclusion, and cost-effective staffing Collaborate with clients, physicians, clinics, employees, and cross-functional departments; conduct regular meetings to share information and provide performance feedback Manage assigned personnel, budgets, and resources and prepare reports using accurate, statistically sound information Lead special projects by developing work plans, coordinating resources, tracking milestones, and communicating results You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:
RHIT or RHIA certification, or active enrollment in an accredited Health Information Management program with a demonstrated path toward obtaining RHIT (2-year program) or RHIA (4-year degree program) certification 2+ years of leadership experience in Health Information Management or healthcare operations 2+ years of experience monitoring operational performance measures, quality outcomes, or service-level commitments 1+ years of experience coaching employees, delivering performance feedback, or supporting employee development 1+ years of experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint in a professional environment Working knowledge of health information management practices and healthcare privacy, documentation, or records requirements Local to Santa Maria, CA and willing to work onsite 5 days/week Driver's License and access to reliable transportationPreferred Qualifications:
RHIT or RHIA certification 1+ years of consulting, project management, or union environment experience Experience with electronic health record and major HIM technology platforms Working knowledge of applicable federal and state requirements and standards from healthcare regulatory or accrediting organizations Skills and Competencies People leadership and employee development Operational and financial accountability Client relationship and customer experience management Change leadership and continuous improvement Program and project management Data-informed decision-making Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
