3-4 out of 5 days/week) The Assistant Director of Development will manage the discovery and qualification pipeline and solicit high-end annual gifts ($500 to $25,000) in support of the Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences, Institute for Cell Engineering, and Department of Genetic Medicine. Working in collaboration with key faculty and staff, the Assistant Director will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of School of Medicine alumni, faculty, and friends by completing discovery visits, solicitation calls, and stewardship touches. The Assistant Director of Development is an integral member of a Central team or Development Office (DOFF) and is responsible for securing philanthropic support for an assigned area of Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. Under the guidance of department/divisional leadership, the Assistant Director will organize and implement strategies for effective relationships with prospects and donors, interact with constituents at all stages in the development cycle, with a focus on the discovery and qualification of prospects to meet fundraising goals and objectives. The Assistant Director will manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and donors with a focus. The Assistant Director is incentive eligible if at least 50% of effort is spent on annual gift fundraising.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
In collaboration with leadership, strategize to determine fundraising and development activities that result in the creation of an annual work plan with specific fundraising goals, KPIs, and objectives. Under general oversight, identify and qualify donors, make recommendations and contribute to the implementation of strategies to create effective donor relationships. Under established processes and procedures, identify and qualify new prospects Manage overall engagement strategies for an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects. Create a strategy for ongoing communication and engagement for the portfolio. Leverage activity, including calls, visits, virtual engagement, and email to discover, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects. Utilize the prospect management system in the CRM to conduct research and analysis as well as document development activities. Collaborate with development colleagues as well as faculty and staff in departments across the institution. Conduct a targeted number of strategic, in-person or virtual visits per year to qualify new prospects, solicit gifts, educate or steward donors. Prepare gift proposals, solicitation letters, and other cultivation and presentation materials for prospects/donors. Evaluate the program and approach and recommend adjustments to leadership. Execute special projects and assignments that advance the fundraising efforts and the capacity of the teams. Other duties as assigned. In addition to the duties listed above the Assistant Director of Development will: Develop an understanding and ability to describe the research and education missions of Johns Hopkins Medicine, specifically the research of faculty members in the Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences, Institute for Cell Engineering, and Department of Genetic Medicine, as well as their affiliated training programs. Articulates the need for support for unrestricted funds and priority needs in these areas. Work closely with the Director of Leadership Giving and Associate Director of Development to identify and qualify new prospects and build a pipeline of new prospects and past donors beginning at the $500 + gift level. Manage a personal portfolio of 75-100 high-end annual giving and stewardship prospects capable of giving $500 to $25,000, engaging them as appropriate, whether via discovery, cultivation, solicitation or stewardship visits. Completes 50 or more prospect and donor visits per year. Serve as primary development liaison to 2-4 IBBS, ICE, or DGM faculty members. Holds recurring meetings to encourage faculty participation in development activities and coordinates faculty participation in prospect solicitations and stewardship. Keeps development team current on faculty research initiatives and funding priorities. Collaborate with SOM Alumni Relations and Stewardship to develop aligned engagement, cultivation, and recognition opportunities that reinforce donor relationships and long-term philanthropic growth Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Two years of related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications Experience using Salesforce or similar advancement CRM platforms for reporting, pipeline tracking, and donor strategy. Demonstrated interest in donor-centered strategy, data-informed decision-making, and continuous process improvement. Experience working with alumni populations and volunteer engagement.

This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary slightly from the salary range stated herein. Total Rewards The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. JHU Equivalency Formula:
30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
