Job Summary:
The EMS director will be involved in the planning, developing, and evaluating the activities of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division. In addition to assisting with all aspects of the company. Job duties include field operations and business office administration. This can include managing fleet, equipment, budget, scheduling, and other duties directed by the facility Executive Director. This position requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about improving emergency medical and medical transportation services while fostering a collaborative work environment.Key Responsibilities:
Uphold Quality EMS Standards:
Ensure regulatory compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agencies. Develop and implement protocols, procedures, and training programs Serve as liaison between state governing bodies, stakeholders, and other healthcare agencies. Adheres to and assures compliance with Code of Conduct, facility policies and procedures and all applicable rules, regulations and standards as promulgated by Federal, State, and accrediting agencies or regulating bodies. This includes, but is not limited to, Department of Health, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other applicable regulatory agencies.Daily Operational Duties:
Supervise all EMS personnel, interns, and students Oversee daily operations, staffing, and budgeting Collaborate with accounts receivable department to optimize billing processes and operational decisions Review financial statements and performance data to optimize productivity and identify areas for cost reduction and program improvement. Prepare work schedules for EMS staff Ensure proper certification of new hires Respond to emergency situations and provide emergency care to patients as needed per protocols Plans, develops, implements, and coordinates with dispatch partners to improve dispatching, call routing, reimbursement/preauthorization's, and unit utilization Works with the compliance team to assure compliance with all laws.Fleet & Equipment Management & Maintenance:
Ensure all fleet vehicles are registered, insured, and in compliance. Monitor vehicle and equipment functionality, safety, and cleanliness Establishes an effective maintenance and repair programs for EMS quarters, vehicles, and equipment. Monitor suppliers to ensure efficient and cost-effective provision of goods and services within budgetary limits.Personnel Functions:
Recruit and retain top talent Assist department directors in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of in-services training classes, on-the-job training and orientation programs. Assist in performance evaluations. Recommends merit increases for, disciplines, and dismisses subordinate staff. Establishes departmental training programs for Paramedics' and EMT recertification and community education programs.Other Potential Supervisory Responsibilities:
All EMS disciplines within the entityInterns and Students Safety Compliance:
Support QA/QI processes to drive clinical excellence Promote safety procedures and compliance among the team. Conduct post-accident investigations, implement safety programs, and oversee safety trainingBusiness Development:
Support business development and healthcare facility relationships to drive referrals and secure contracts Facilitate new business contractsCollaboration:
Communicate goals, updates, and program outcomes effectively across departments Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or EMS Resource.Educational & Knowledge Requirements:
Bachelor's degree preferred; but not required Previous EMS experience. (Minimum of 5 years preferred) Currently holds certification as a Paramedic, preferred Critical Care Paramedic. Must hold current and active State license/Registration/Certification. Knowledge of emergency medical services policies, practices, and procedures; and pre-hospital medical care practices and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management; personnel management; budgeting and financial management; and RFP/contracts.Leadership Experience:
At least three (3) years in a supervisory role. Excellent leadership and delegation abilities. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Fleet management experience is a plus.Additional Specific Requirements:
Must hold a current and active State license/Registration/Certification. Knowledge of emergency medical services policies, practices, and procedures; and pre-hospital medical care practices and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management; personnel management; budgeting and financial management; and RFP/contracts. Knowledge of HIPAA and transport rules/regulations.Working Conditions:
The work requires the incumbent to direct emergency medical services in the field. Speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
