Job Description
Job Purpose :
Responsible for executing the customer's request for transportation in the most efficient and cost-effective manner while providing the highest level of service. The Dispatcher is a front line representative of World Class Logistics and must constantly demonstrate our commitment to providing the highest level of service to our clients and ensuring fair business practices with each of our vendors. Acts as the interface between the client and vendor. Accountable to develop and maintaining the most cost-effective and efficient logistics platform to maximize profitability and customer savings. This includes service optimization, track and trace interfaces or issue and handling client and vendor interactions. Needs to demonstrate the ability to service on-demand as well as scheduled or routed work.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Able to exercise a high level of discretion and latitude in completing tasks.
- Accountable for dispatching and assigning vendors to carriers based on client demands and service requirements. Be able to quickly move to an alternative vendor when business conditions (availability, price, or quality) dictate change.
- Accountable for tracking and tracing all outbound and inbound deliveries and resolving service issues and failures.
- Respond to daily inquiries made by customer and/or vendors in relation to product movement, providing ETA's or managing a package search.
- Understand the planned customer requirements based on schedules for services and/or product flow through the plant/distribution center. Based on the understanding of planned needs, be able to project service requirements and determine how best to meet those needs.
- Combine work where customer requirements permit to enhance the profitability. Also able to review scheduled services and to make recommendations as to how cost could be reduced or timeliness improved.
- Serves effectively as a team member.
- Analytical skills with the ability to multi-task.
- TruckMate, PC Miler, and any Transportation Management System is preferred
- Knowledge with Forwarding, Brokerage, and a 3PL environment is preferred
- Hours and shifts change periodically; 1st and 2nd shift alternate and are moved and changed as business dictates.
- Weekend and/or Holiday are required depending on business and management direction
- This position does require filtering through reports; some travel may be required.
- Performs other duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- Some college preferred.
- Above average math comprehension.
- Attention to detail
- Brokerage, Freight Forwarder, 3PL Training preferred
- Must have 2 years of experience related to Traffic Management.
- 1 year prior experience brokering freight, with a current customer base, desired.
- Must have a working knowledge of DOT regulations about brokering, shipping, and receiving freight.
- Must have complete knowledge of transportation documentation
- A demonstrated, solid understanding of Logistics and Transportation including carrier alternatives, pricing, geography and ability to foresee potential logistical problems.
- Intimate knowledge of same-day logistics, including carrier alternatives, pricing and potential problems.
- Understands transportation language and some regulations, able to report and make decisions based on alternative routes used for transport and or weather and traffic conditions.
Computer Skills :
- Requires proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and related applications.
- Must have strong analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile, and analyze data.
- Experience with transportation management software desired.
Reasoning Ability :
- Must be able to interact with all levels of management and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
