Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
This is a highly responsible and moderately complex position involving operating radio, telephone, and related equipment to efficiently relay information and dispatch personnel and equipment used to protect life and property. This position will interact with students, employees, visitors, and other community stakeholders; therefore, a high level of customer service is expected. Employees receive extensive on-the-job training and must exercise precise judgment, alertness and responsiveness in emergency situations. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a senior-level employee and is given leeway to exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.

Essential on-site employees are required to report to work during College closures, including inclement weather or emergency situations. This critical role ensures the safety, security, and operational continuity of College facilities, supporting the institution's ability to resume normal operations efficiently.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Determines the nature and importance of all telephone call requests and initiates appropriate response actions to service the requests sufficiently. Inputs and retrieves information from several public safety and facilities databases, and monitors all internal office telephones, two-way radio communications, alarm, and access control systems. Maintains a detailed daily incident report log. Logs in and out items that have been turned into Lost and Found. Manage issuance of parking decals/access. Assist Access Services in the distribution and collection of keys. Contact and dispatch security officers and facilities staff via radio and telephone to campus areas for calls for service. Monitors and responds to radio traffic from various campus operations. Receives, reviews, assigns, and closes all Public Safety compliance-related work orders and preventive maintenance items. Assist customers with submitting work orders for repairs Assist department administrators by providing timely and accurate reports from various software applications Assist in the operations of access control software, creation and issuance of access control cards, and scheduling/programming electronic locks. Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED certification Previous experience in a dispatch operations center or similar type of environment Must possess all necessary technical skills associated with the position Preferred Requirements Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or six months to one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent Previous college and/or university campus safety/security/law enforcement experience preferred or equivalent on-the-job experience. Previous experience with Video Management and Access Control systems
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Laws, regulations, methods, and techniques in the area of specialty; General office methods, procedures, and practices; Customer service principles; Program coordination principles, practices, and techniques; Diverse populations and cultures; and Computers and related software applications.
Skills in:
Providing customer service; Reviewing and processing paperwork, forms, and/or other related items; Ensuring compliance with applicable internal and/or external program requirements; Using a computer and related software applications; and Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with assigned employees, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.
Ability to:
Prioritize and assign work; Work shift assignments as required by the department, which could include working holidays and weekends; React calmly and effectively in all situations; Make judgment calls on sensitive, confidential issues; Use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information; Interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures; Address and resolve customer complaints and concerns; Investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions; and Maintain confidentiality
WORK ENVIRONMENT
May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace. Work is performed dealing with crisis situations that require making decisions involving people, resources, and property. This function/position has been designated as "critical." This means that it has job duties that affect the security, safety or physical operation of the College, and are required to work at the Emergency Operations Center and/or have access to the incident scene once normal campus operations have been suspended. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. $16.54 - $20.05 per hour
