Job Summary:
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating daily transportation activities, ensuring efficient route planning, driver communication, and timely customer service. This role serves as the primary point of contact between drivers, customers, and internal teams while supporting DOT compliance, delivery schedules, and overall fleet operations. The Dispatcher must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and dispatch CDL drivers to meet daily service, pickup, and delivery requirements Plan, schedule, and optimize daily routes for maximum efficiency and customer satisfaction Monitor driver activity and provide real-time support throughout the workday Communicate with drivers, customers, sales representatives, managers, and corporate personnel regarding schedules, route changes, and service updates Contact customers to confirm scheduled pickups and provide status updates as needed Reschedule missed stops and coordinate service recovery efforts Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and company safety policies Maintain accurate dispatch records, route information, customer communications, and transportation documentation Monitor fleet utilization and coordinate vehicle maintenance and repair schedules to minimize downtime Investigate and resolve customer service issues and delivery concerns in a timely and professional manner Assist with outbound shipment scheduling and transportation logistics activities Support customer billing and related transportation documentation as needed Collaborate with the Transportation Manager to improve operational efficiency and customer service performance Perform additional administrative and transportation-related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
Experience with Samsara, Tower, or similar fleet management and dispatch systems preferred Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Professional phone and email etiquette Ability to prioritize changing schedules and operational demands Proficiency with Microsoft Office and transportation-related software systems Knowledge of transportation operations, routing, and DOT regulations preferred
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum of 2 years of dispatch, transportation, logistics, or fleet coordination experience preferred Experience within the trucking, transportation, or recycling industry preferred Experience using Samsara, Tower, or comparable fleet management systems preferred Knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and transportation compliance preferred
