Duties Answer incoming multi-line phone calls with professionalism, courtesy, and clear communication using telephony systems. Assess emergency situations through phone triage, gathering essential information efficiently to determine appropriate response protocols. Dispatch law enforcement, fire, or medical units promptly using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software while maintaining accurate data entry and records. Operate radio communication systems to coordinate with first responders, ensuring clear and effective transmission of information. Utilize GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to locate incidents accurately and provide precise directions to responders. Provide first aid or basic life support instructions via phone until emergency personnel arrive, demonstrating strong knowledge of CPR and emergency medical dispatch procedures. Manage conflict situations with calm negotiation skills while maintaining professionalism under pressure. Document all communications thoroughly, including transcription of incident details and incident reports for future review. Requirements Prior experience in EMT services or emergency medical dispatch is highly desirable. Strong understanding of police dispatch procedures, radio communication systems, and emergency communication protocols. Familiarity with GIS mapping tools, GPS technology, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software. Knowledge of basic life support techniques such as CPR and first aid certification preferred. Excellent communication skills, including phone etiquette, active listening, and clear verbal articulation. Ability to handle high-stress situations with composure while making quick decisions based on analysis skills. Proficient typing skills for efficient data entry and transcription tasks; technical proficiency with telephony systems is essential. Demonstrated customer service experience with strong interpersonal skills to assist callers effectively during emergencies. Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced environment requiring multi-tasking and conflict management abilities.
