Job Title:
DispatcherJob Description The Dispatcher oversees transportation move management from assignment through final delivery, ensuring shipments are covered, monitored, and completed on time while maintaining strong relationships with carriers and internal teams. This role coordinates carrier capacity, tracks shipment status, resolves delivery issues, and proactively communicates updates to stakeholders and customers. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment, enjoys problem-solving, and can balance service quality, operational efficiency, and profitability. Responsibilities Coordinate and manage shipments from initial assignment through final delivery to ensure timely and accurate execution. Monitor and maintain load boards to secure timely coverage for all shipments. Source and secure carrier capacity within established rate guidelines while balancing service and cost. Maintain accurate and up-to-date shipment status information within the transportation management system (TMS). Monitor pickups and deliveries to ensure performance standards and service commitments are met. Identify potential shipment delays and service risks proactively and take corrective action. Resolve transportation exceptions and operational issues in a timely and professional manner. Escalate unresolved concerns with clear, documented action steps and recommendations. Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers and transportation providers, handling day-to-day communication. Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with carriers to support ongoing capacity needs. Provide proactive shipment updates and exception notifications to internal stakeholders and customers. Partner closely with account management and operations teams to align service, cost, and operational goals. Troubleshoot service issues and coordinate resolutions that meet both customer and carrier needs. Balance carrier needs, customer expectations, and profitability goals when making operational decisions. Deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced, high-volume logistics environment. Monitor profitability on assigned shipments and support efforts to improve margin performance. Document carrier rejections, capacity issues, and service challenges to support continuous improvement. Support operational reporting and ensure data accuracy within systems and reports. Assist with transportation performance tracking, including on-time metrics and service KPIs. Perform accurate data entry related to shipments, carriers, and customer information using TMS and Microsoft Office tools. Essential Skills Minimum 1 year of experience in logistics, transportation, dispatch, brokerage, or supply chain, or 2-5 years of higher-level customer service or call center experience in an automotive, logistics, or similar industry. Experience in trucking, transportation, 3PL, brokerage, or fleet operations is highly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting and filtering large data sets, using basic formulas, creating pivot tables, and generating reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word for professional communication and documentation. Ability to learn and effectively use transportation management systems (TMS). Understanding of transportation operations and how shipments move through the supply chain. Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations is preferred. ELD/eLog experience is a plus. Strong customer service skills with a focus on responsiveness and problem resolution. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with carriers, customers, and internal teams. Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with carriers and colleagues. High level of organization and attention to detail to manage multiple shipments and tasks simultaneously. Proven ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under time pressure. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a team. Demonstrated sense of urgency and commitment to meeting deadlines. Professional and collaborative demeanor when working with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and during service disruptions. Strong decision-making abilities that balance service, efficiency, and profitability. High energy and professional attitude suitable for a dynamic logistics environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required. Experience in a higher-level customer service or call center role, ideally within automotive, logistics, or similar industries. Familiarity with track-and-trace processes within transportation operations. Experience using TMS platforms for shipment management and status updates. Comfort with data entry and handling large volumes of information accurately. Customer service mindset with a focus on delivering a positive experience to carriers and customers. Ability to grow into leadership roles such as Site Manager or Operations Manager within transportation operations. Interest in developing logistics, transportation, and leadership skills over time. Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operational demands in a team-oriented environment. Work Environment The Dispatcher works in a fast-paced, team-oriented transportation operations environment with significant interaction with carriers, operations, and account management teams. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with one weekend shift per month on a rotating basis; schedules are published in advance to support planning. The role relies heavily on technology, including transportation management systems (TMS), Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, as well as track-and-trace tools for monitoring shipments. The environment emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and a strong sense of urgency, providing exposure to transportation operations and carrier management along with a clear career path into leadership roles. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Plymouth, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $55000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. 10 days of PTO, Competitive benefits, Med, vision, and dental benefits.
