Job Description

Brokerage Dispatch Specialist Overview The Brokerage Dispatch Specialist is responsible for coordinating daily transportation operations for Burlington Township Transportation Company, including carrier sourcing, load coverage, carrier communication, rate negotiation, shipment coordination, and ongoing carrier relationship management. This position exercises independent judgment in selecting transportation solutions, assigning carriers, managing capacity, resolving service issues, and supporting customer service and profitability objectives. The role works closely with operations, sales, account management, and carrier partners to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and timely transportation solutions. Responsibilities Transportation & Carrier Coordination Coordinate daily transportation operations, including carrier assignments, load coverage, pickup and delivery scheduling, and shipment tracking. Source and identify qualified carriers to meet customer transportation requirements. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with carriers, owner-operators, and transportation providers. Negotiate spot-market rates while maintaining established margin and profitability targets. Match available capacity with customer freight based on lane, equipment, service requirements, pricing, and carrier performance. Maintain accurate and timely shipment information within the company's TMS and other transportation systems. Communicate effectively with carriers, customers, drivers, and internal teams regarding shipment status and operational requirements. Operations Management Make daily operational decisions regarding carrier assignments, load coverage, routing, scheduling, and capacity utilization. Monitor freight activity and proactively identify potential coverage or service issues. Resolve transportation issues, including delays, missed pickups, breakdowns, rejected loads, detention, and other service exceptions. Coordinate with sales and account management teams to ensure customer transportation requirements are met. Support margin optimization by balancing carrier costs, customer rates, service requirements, and available capacity. Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, communication, efficiency, and carrier utilization. Carrier Relationship Management Maintain regular communication with key carriers to understand their equipment availability, preferred lanes, and capacity needs. Monitor carrier performance and address recurring service or communication issues. Assist with carrier onboarding, qualification, documentation, and ongoing compliance requirements. Develop long-term carrier relationships that improve capacity, service reliability, and operational efficiency. Assist in evaluating and replacing carriers when performance, compliance, or service requirements are not met. Communication & Team Support Provide timely updates to customers and internal stakeholders regarding shipment status and exceptions. Support sales and account management teams with transportation capacity, pricing, and market information. Share transportation market intelligence and operational feedback to help improve overall company performance. Contribute to a culture of accountability, responsiveness, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, dispatching, carrier management, or related operations preferred. Experience working with domestic truckload carriers, owner-operators, and third-party transportation providers preferred. Experience with load planning, carrier sourcing, dispatching, rate negotiation, or freight coordination. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills. Ability to make sound decisions and prioritize multiple shipments and operational requirements in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Proficiency with TMS platforms, Microsoft Excel, transportation software, and reporting tools. Commitment to learning and developing new transportation and logistics skills as business and customer needs evolve. Knowledge of transportation compliance, safety, insurance, and carrier qualification requirements preferred.
