Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Dispatcher to coordinate the movement of ocean freight containers from the Port of New York & New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with import/export operations, container dispatching, and communication with steamship lines, port terminals, truck drivers, and customers to ensure timely deliveries.
Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate pickups and deliveries of ocean import and export containers.
Track container movement and provide accurate ETA updates.
Schedule and manage appointments with port terminals, warehouses, and customer locations.
Coordinate empty container returns according to steamship line (SSL) requirements.
Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve delays or scheduling issues.
Communicate with drivers, customers, warehouses, and steamship lines to ensure smooth operations.
Maintain accurate dispatch records and shipment documentation.
Prioritize daily dispatch activities to meet delivery deadlines and customer expectations.
Ensure compliance with port procedures and transportation regulations.
Required QualificationsPrevious experience as a Dispatcher in the transportation, logistics, or drayage industry.
Experience handling ocean containers for both imports and exports.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and transportation management software.
Preferred QualificationsExperience working with the Port of New York & New Jersey terminals.
Familiarity with steamship lines (SSLs), container appointments, and terminal operations.
Knowledge of drayage, container return procedures, detention, demurrage, and port logistics.
Ideal CandidateDetail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Able to coordinate effectively with drivers, customers, warehouses, and port personnel.
Proactive, dependable, and customer-focused.
