General Definition of Work Performs Dispatch operations and administrative support for the Santa Fe Trails bus system to provide customer service and communications to operators. Supervision Received Works under the general guidance and direction of the Transit Dispatch Supervisor. Supervision Exercised None Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. - Assigns busses and provides assistance to Operators as needed.
- Communicates and shares pertinent information with supervisor(s), office staff, Transit Operators, and the general public.
- Communicates with Maintenance staff to identify issues and schedule repairs for vehicles as necessary
- Coordinates emergency response to broken-down units, accidents, and issues involving a police response, including contacting Emergency Services, tow truck services; coordinates work orders, repairs, and other services with supervisor(s).
- Communicates route and operator needs to supervisor(s).
- Determines cross platform travel needs including car, bus, and trail in both urban and rural areas.
- Distributes schedules, instructions, forms, route information and other materials to Transit Operators as requested by supervisor(s).
- Maintains fuel, mileage, key, and dispatch logs and provides reports related to radio communications including bus/van schedule board, daily operations, and condition of vehicles.
- Monitors, evaluates, and manages smart transportation systems including Route Match, MOM, other programs, and applications.
- Monitors and evaluates established bus routes and assists with developing schedules in accordance with transit travel time indexes.
- Provides information to customers regarding emergencies, traffic reports, levels-of
- service for public transportation, and related needs.
- Responds to employee complaints, concerns, and requests in a courteous manner; reports issues to supervisor(s) as necessary.
- Re-routes services as needed in high-volume traffic scenarios, relaying all route discrepancies, traffic reports, and general transit information as necessary.
- Takes part in trainings that maintain and enhance knowledge and skills.
- Utilizes 2-way radio communications and telecommunications systems to provide radio dispatching/communication in accordance with F.C.C. regulations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to determine minor vehicle maintenance problems.
- Ability to work in a professional and courteous manner with employees, other departments/division, and the general public.
- Ability to learn routes, traffic patterns, and safety and division policies.
- Knowledge of F.C.C. guidelines
- Knowledge and uses of 10-codes, Zulu time, and NATO Phonetic in communications.
- Familiarity with or ability to learn to use DOT applications, dispatch management software, tablet and route/bus stop software, cloud based software, and Kronos.
- Knowledge of City streets.
- Knowledge of busses/vans.
- Knowledge of Uber/Lift, RTD, Park & Ride, Rail Runner, and other transferable transportation services.
- Skill with or ability to learn Data collecting applications and fare box operations,
- Skill in the operation of hand-held 2-way radios

- Education Requirement High School diploma or GED Experience Requirement Two (2) years' experience in radio communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education and Experience Equivalency One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. Licensure and Certifications
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Defensive Driving. Special Requirements
- Must pass a drug and alcohol screening prior to employment. Subject to random drug and alcohol testing during employment.
- Must obtain and maintain a City of Santa Fe driving permit within three (3) months of hire. Physical Requirements
- Must be able to operate cars safely.
- Must be able to frequently use methods of communication, research, and information tracking such as telephone, computer, etc.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or using radio.
- Requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
- Requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting.
