REQUIREMENTS
10+ years of dispatch experience in drayage, specifically port and rail intermodal freight In-depth knowledge of port terminal operations, appointment systems, and rail ramp procedures Experience with chassis pools, container tracking, per diem, and demurrage Experience managing owner-operators and/or company drivers Strong knowledge of
DOT/FMCSA
regulations, HOS, and safety compliance Experience with dispatch/TMS software such as McLeod, Tailwind, Turvo, DrayMaster, or similar Excellent communication skills with drivers, customers, terminals, and rail personnel Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly under pressure Strong organization and attention to detail
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, assign, and dispatch drayage loads to/from marine terminals and rail ramps Track containers and proactively communicate delays or issues Coordinate port and rail appointments to improve turn times Monitor chassis availability and equipment logistics Manage last-free-day, per diem, and demurrage issues Communicate with customers regarding load status, ETAs, and exceptions Maintain accurate dispatch and TMS records Build strong relationships with drivers, terminals, and steamship lines Troubleshoot service issues and keep freight moving efficiently
