General Statement:
The School Bus Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the daily safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of students to and from school, athletic events, and field trips. This role serves as the central hub of communication for the transportation department—monitoring bus routes via two-way radio, managing driver schedules, responding to unexpected delays or emergencies, and providing exceptional customer service to parents, school administrators, and the public.
Responsibilities:
Operate the two-way radio system and base station to maintain constant communication with drivers.
Monitor arrival/departure times and route progress to ensure punctuality. Utilize electronic routing software (e.g., Versatran) to adjust or optimize routes due to construction, weather, or road hazards. Work independently or under the direction of a supervisor.
Assist with all office functions and operations, including but not limited to answering the phones, checking voicemail, returning calls, sending and responding to emails, scheduling and coordinating meetings.
Use basic office equipment, including but not limited to computers, multi-line phones, cell phones, tablets, printers, fax machines, scanners, shredders, postal machines.
Utilize basic computer software, including but not limited to, Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader.
Ability to multi-task and rearrange priorities as needed.
Carry oneself in a courteous, respectful, and professional matter at all times.
Other related duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Qualifications:
Experience:
At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements:
Walk, climb stairs and lift up 40 lbs.
