Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services Location:
Bridgeport, Harrison County, WV The Harrison County Bureau of Emergency Services is seeking dependable, detail‑oriented individuals for the position of Telecommunicator. As a vital member of our 911 Communications Center, you will be responsible for receiving, evaluating, and dispatching emergency and non‑emergency calls for law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medical care for both Harrison and Taylor counties. This role requires professionalism, clear communication, and the ability to remain calm while managing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced and highly critical environment. Telecommunicators directly support the safety and well‑being of Harrison and Taylor County residents and first responders. Key Responsibilities Receive, prioritize, and document calls requesting police, fire, EMS, or other emergency assistance Obtain essential caller information and accurately input details into CAD systems Dispatch appropriate responders using radios and emergency communications technology Provide pre‑arrival instructions, including lifesaving guidance when needed Coordinate multiple agencies and relay critical information to field units and medical personnel Monitor alarms, remote cameras, and other security systems to ensure timely detection of threats Maintain strong situational awareness and update unit statuses throughout each incident Perform regular equipment checks to ensure all communication systems remain fully operational Follow established procedures, policies, and standards to maintain an effective and compliant communications center Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills in English Ability to type a minimum of 20 words per minute Basic computer proficiency with common applications Must pass background checks approved by the WV State Police and FBI Valid driver's license (WV license required within 60 days of hire) Ability to work rotating or permanent shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays Commitment to a 100% drug‑free work environment and adherence to all drug‑free workplace policies Work & Physical Environment Fast‑paced 911 center with moderate ambient noise Primarily sedentary work with periodic standing, reaching, or light physical tasks Occasional lifting requirements up to 25-50 lbs. Must be able to adjust focus and maintain close and distance vision as required May be required to stay beyond a scheduled shift or report early to maintain minimum staffing essential to public safety operations
