Administration Position classification: Union - Level 1 Compensation range: $25.00-$27.50 per hour Work site: On-site (Washington, D.C., office) Summary American Progress is seeking a reliable and service-oriented Facilities Assistant to support the Office Services team in maintaining efficient day-to-day office operations. This position will provide support for facilities requests, office services, meetings and events, mail and package distribution, and general workplace needs. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, detail-oriented, able to exercise discretion, and committed to providing excellent internal customer service while supporting the organization's mission. This part-time position is scheduled for 20 hours per week but may require up to 30 hours per week during periods of increased demand to support operational needs.Responsibilities:
Support daily office operations, including supply management, desk setup, and general office service requests. Submit building and facilities maintenance requests through the designated portal and track completion. Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and packages. Coordinate courier and messenger services as needed. Set up and break down catering for meetings and events. Prepare and reset conference rooms, meeting spaces, and common areas before and after meetings. Maintain the organization and readiness of shared office spaces, kitchens, and meeting areas. Provide backup support for the Administrative Associate role as needed. Assist with office moves, events, and other operational activities during peak periods. Exercise appropriate discretion when handling sensitive information and workplace matters. Perform other duties as assigned.Requirements and qualifications:
1-2 years of administrative, facilities, or office support experience. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling workplace matters and sensitive information. Strong customer service skills and responsiveness. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and follow through on assignments. Basic proficiency with office tools, including email, spreadsheets, and request tracking systems. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Commitment to the organization's mission and goals.
