Position Summary & Responsibilities Position Summary:

This is a skilled position which schedules and supervises 4 facilities specialists and one power plant operator sr. Completes PRFs on these 5 employees. Work involves monitoring, operating, and maintaining all power plant related equipment, recording appropriate readings and information. Performs preventative and general maintenance on equipment and performs emergency repairs or adjustments to maintain system integrity. Identify and provide quality customer services and helps to provide quality support services to Larned State Hospital, State Security Program, Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility, and Sexual Predator Treatment Program in pursuit of their mission. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Maintenance Completes maintenance duties on chlorine pumps, water wells, boilers, and power plant-related equipment. Complete preventative maintenance on diesel generators, boilers, water wells and pumps. Complete daily scheduled maintenance inspections of main power plant, SSH power plant, and adult treatment center power plant. Utilizes SMART system to procure chemicals for boilers and parts for power plant equipment as needed. Operates and Repairs (2) High Pressure Steam Boilers and (6) Low Pressure Steam Boilers Fires Boilers on oil monthly. Fires Boilers on gas daily. Monitors combustion control equipment. Completes boiler water tests. Repair and Operate Emergency Diesel Generators, (2) 750 KVA , (1) 275 KVA , (1) 60 KVA , (2) 600KVA, and (2) 1000KVA Complete monthly generator tests under load. Test all batteries weekly. Put generators online for monthly testing and in the event of power failure. Take generators offline for monthly testing and in the event of power failure. Water Softeners, (4) Water Wells and Hot Water System Water Softeners Monitor hardness using a hardness indicator with a hardness buffer, regenerate softeners and make brine. Water Wells Test for chlorine residual using a chlorine indicator with DPD free chlorine residual pillows, check wells daily (requires drivers license), make repairs when needed, and complete all KDHE records. Hot Water System Monitor hot water temperatures and pressure by observing temperature and pressure gauges and change anodes when necessary. Daily Logs Record pertinent information on daily logs. Supervision Supervise, train and evaluate inmate labor if needed. Supervise new and existing facilities specialists. Complete PRFs on 4 facilities specialists, and 1 power plant operator sr. Complete weekly work schedule and timekeeping. Subject to fill in for different shifts in case of emergencies. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Valid Drivers License with no restrictions. Preferred Qualifications 5 years in the daily maintenance and repair of a power plant, which includes maintaining equipment which produces high pressure steam for building system heat.
