Work is performed under the close supervision of the Airport Maintenance Supervisor. This position may require working rotating shifts, nights and weekends, holidays and during times of inclement weather. Position Responsibilities Schedules and performs/coordinates maintenance on equipment and systems on HVAC systems and air handlers, baggage conveyor systems, jet-way loading bridge, ADA passenger loading device, automatic door systems, parking lot automated gates and ticket distribution devices, public addressing system, security access doors, and terminal sewer LPP system (monitoring and scheduling with ONWASA); using a computerized system for maintenance requests, purchase requests, vendor quotes, etc. Maintains airport grounds to include mowing grass, weed-trimming, and landscaping all airport grounds outside the perimeter fencing on a weekly or sometimes more frequent basis. Performs maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities of the Airport. Performs plumbing, masonry, painting, carpentry and minor electrical work. Collects trash and garbage and disposes of same. Operates trucks, tractors and mowers in grounds maintenance work. Applies pesticides and herbicides to industry standards. Performs snow removal, leaf and limb removal in off season. Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer. Performs related tasks as required. Qualifications General knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in general construction, turf grass, horticulture and maintenance work; general knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades; some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to job duties; some knowledge of standard office productivity software; ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form; ability to operate simple machinery and equipment; good physical condition; general landscaping knowledge, ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees & general public. Education, Experience, and Special Requirements High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in grounds and facilities maintenance work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (nonweather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic). Special Requirements Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators license within the first 6 months of employment. Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and Security Threat Assessment (STA) to obtain an airport security (SIDA) badge. Valid commercial driver's license, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit. NC401k The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%. Vacation Leave Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases. Sick Leave Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year. Paid Holidays County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
