Job Description

Position Summary The Kitchen Manager & Facilities Staff position is a full-time, dual-role position responsible for the daily operation of Bailey Charter Elementary School's food service program as well as assigned custodial and facilities responsibilities. The employee serves as the school's lead kitchen staff member and is responsible for the preparation and service of student meals, food and supply ordering, inventory management, required food service documentation and record keeping, kitchen sanitation, and compliance with applicable school nutrition and food safety requirements. Following completion of daily food service responsibilities, the employee performs custodial and facilities duties to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming school environment. The allocation of time between kitchen and facilities responsibilities may vary based on daily school operational needs. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesKitchen Management & Food Service Manage the daily operation of the school kitchen and meal service program. Coordinate and complete daily meal preparation, including heating, assembling, portioning, and otherwise preparing food according to established menus and procedures. Ensure meals are prepared and served according to approved menus, appropriate portion sizes, and applicable meal program requirements. Set up the kitchen, serving line, and other food service areas for daily meal service. Serve meals to students in an efficient, respectful, and welcoming manner. Maintain required meal counts, production records, temperature logs, inventory records, and other documentation associated with the school meal program. Complete required food service reports and provide records or information to school administration as requested. Order food, beverages, paper products, cleaning supplies, and other kitchen materials from approved vendors. Monitor food and supply inventory and maintain adequate stock to support uninterrupted meal service. Receive deliveries; verify quantities and condition of products received; and appropriately store refrigerated, frozen, and dry goods. Rotate food and supplies using appropriate inventory practices and monitor expiration and use-by dates. Minimize food waste while maintaining adequate quantities for student meal service. Maintain organized records of orders, invoices, deliveries, inventory, meal production, and other required food service documentation. Communicate promptly with the Director/Principal or designee regarding supply shortages, delivery problems, equipment concerns, menu issues, or other matters that could affect meal service. Assist with planning and preparation for special meals, school events, or other food service needs as assigned. Food Safety, Sanitation & Compliance Follow all applicable food handling, sanitation, hygiene, and food safety requirements. Obtain and maintain required food handler and/or food safety certifications. Monitor and document food temperatures as required. Ensure food is stored, prepared, held, and served safely. Maintain a clean, sanitary, organized, and inspection-ready kitchen and food storage area. Clean and sanitize food preparation surfaces, serving areas, sinks, equipment, appliances, utensils, trays, and other kitchen materials. Wash dishes and food service equipment following meal preparation and service. Sweep and mop kitchen and food service areas and remove kitchen trash and recycling. Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, pest concerns, food safety concerns, or other hazards immediately to school administration. Cooperate with health, food service, program, and other required inspections or reviews and maintain documentation necessary to demonstrate compliance. Custodial & Facilities Responsibilities Following daily kitchen and meal service responsibilities, the employee performs assigned custodial and facilities duties throughout the school.
Responsibilities include:
Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and other assigned school spaces. Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain floors and other surfaces. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and other areas as appropriate. Clean and restock student and staff restrooms. Empty trash and recycling and transport waste to designated collection areas. Maintain adequate custodial supplies and notify administration when supplies need to be reordered. Assist with receiving, moving, storing, and organizing school supplies, furniture, equipment, and deliveries. Assist with room set-up and take-down for school meetings, events, programs, and activities. Perform routine monitoring of the school building and grounds and promptly report maintenance, safety, security, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other facilities concerns. Complete minor facilities and maintenance tasks within the employee's training and ability. Support opening, closing, and securing of designated areas of the school as assigned. Assist with seasonal, deep-cleaning, and school-break custodial projects. Help maintain exterior entrances, walkways, waste areas, and other assigned school grounds. Respond to spills, accidents, bodily fluids, or other immediate cleaning and sanitation needs in accordance with established safety procedures. Maintain custodial equipment and storage areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. General Responsibilities Maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful manner when interacting with students, families, staff, vendors, and community members. Work cooperatively with school administration and other staff to support efficient school operations. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and school information. Follow BCES policies, procedures, Employee Handbook requirements, safety procedures, and administrative directives. Immediately report safety hazards, security concerns, accidents, injuries, or other significant concerns to the Director/Principal or designee. Participate in required training, meetings, emergency drills, and professional learning applicable to the position. Maintain reliable and regular attendance. Adjust daily priorities when necessary to respond to the operational needs of the school. Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned by the Director/Principal or designee. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain required food handler and food safety certification(s). Knowledge of or ability to learn school food service operations, food safety procedures, meal documentation, inventory control, and ordering procedures. Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation in a timely manner. Ability to follow menus, written instructions, safety procedures, and established school protocols. Ability to work independently, organize multiple responsibilities, and manage time effectively. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, vendors, and administrators. Prior food service, kitchen, custodial, facilities, or school experience preferred. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the physical duties associated with both food service and custodial work, including: Standing and walking for extended periods. Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements. Lifting and carrying supplies, food products, trash, equipment, and other materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate. Safely operating kitchen, cleaning, and custodial equipment. Working around food preparation equipment, cleaning products, temperature variations, and wet surfaces. Performing duties requiring manual dexterity and sustained physical activity. Work Schedule The regular work schedule is 10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday , according to the assigned BCES work calendar. The employee's workday will generally begin with kitchen management, meal preparation, meal service, and food service clean-up responsibilities. The remainder of the workday will primarily consist of custodial and facilities duties. Specific assignments and the allocation of time between responsibilities may vary based on meal service requirements, school activities, staffing, emergencies, and other operational needs.
Pay:
$24.45 - $29.45 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
