Help Keep Tompkins County Moving TCAT is seeking an experienced and motivated Facility Manager to lead the maintenance, repair, and improvement of our transit facilities and passenger amenities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our operations run safely, efficiently, and reliably every day. As Facility Manager, you'll oversee facility maintenance staff and custodial teams, manage specialized contractors, lead facility improvement projects, and ensure that our buildings, equipment, and passenger infrastructure remain in excellent condition. From maintaining critical shop equipment to coordinating bus shelter installations throughout the community, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a visible impact on public transportation in Tompkins County. What You'll Do Facility Operations & Maintenance Direct all maintenance, repair, and operational activities across TCAT facilities and infrastructure. Ensure the operational readiness of facility systems and equipment, including hydraulic lifts, bus washers, water reclamation systems, vacuum systems, and related shop equipment. Oversee interior and exterior facility maintenance, custodial operations, deep cleaning programs, landscaping, and snow removal activities. Monitor facility conditions and develop plans to address maintenance needs before they impact operations. Team Leadership Supervise a small team of facility mechanic(s) and custodial staff. Assign, prioritize, and monitor work activities. Promote a safe, productive, and team-oriented work environment. Support employee development and performance management efforts. Vendor & Contractor Management Develop scopes of work and coordinate specialized contractors and service providers. Review contractor performance and ensure compliance with contract terms, service expectations, and quality standards. Partner with procurement staff to ensure compliance with purchasing policies, bid processes, and vendor agreements. Project Management Lead facility improvement projects from planning through completion. Manage building renovations, equipment replacements, and infrastructure upgrades. Coordinate with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Passenger Amenities Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of bus shelters, benches, and related passenger amenities. Coordinate with municipalities, property owners, and internal teams regarding siting, ADA accessibility, permits, and right-of-way requirements. Maintain records and databases related to passenger amenities and provide periodic reporting. Emergency Response Serve as the primary response lead for facility emergencies, including power outages, fire alarm incidents, weather events, and critical equipment failures. Participate in an on-call rotation and respond as needed outside normal business hours. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of commercial or industrial facility maintenance experience . Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience .
Strong working knowledge of:
Commercial HVAC systems Plumbing systems Electrical power distribution Lighting systems Security systems Industrial hydraulic equipment Experience managing contractors, reviewing bids, developing scopes of work, and overseeing specialized trades. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Valid driver's license. Ability to be on-call for evenings, weekends, and emergency response situations. Preferred Qualifications Technical trade certification or degree in Facility Management or a related field. Experience supervising employees in a unionized environment. Experience managing facility capital projects, renovations, or major equipment upgrades. Physical Requirements This position includes both office and field work and requires the ability to: Lift up to 100 pounds. Frequently bend, twist, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb ladders. Work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Stand and walk for extended periods. Safely operate tools, equipment, and facility systems. Why TCAT?
