Exempt, Non-Union Position Purpose:
The Assistant Facilities Manager supports the Sr Facilities Manager with the management of plant facilities, utilities, infrastructure, building, and grounds to ensure safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operations. This role coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Facility Maintenance team, oversees vendor and contractor work, manages capital projects, and assists with managing facilities budgets while ensuring compliance with OSHA, food safety, environmental, and local/state regulatory requirements. The Assistant Facilities Manager partners closely with Production Maintenance, Process & Reliability, Operations, Quality, EHS, HR, Engineering, and the other manufacturing facilities to support uninterrupted manufacturing performance.
Key Specific Responsibilities:
Assist in the daily oversight of building and grounds operations, including ammonia refrigeration system, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance. Support the operations, maintenance and regulatory compliance Ammonia Refrigeration System Support the Sr Facilities Manger with administration and compliance of the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) for industrial ammonia refrigeration systems to ensue are federal regulatory compliance. Supervise and coordinate the facilities maintenance staff and third-party contractors/vendors. Coordinate and track preventive and corrective maintenance for facility equipment, utilities, and building systems. Respond to facility issues and service requests, prioritizing and resolving them promptly. Support compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations. Assist with facility capital projects, including contractor coordination, scheduling, installation, startup, and project closeout. Assist in managing facilities budgets, tracking expenses, and processing invoices. Help coordinate space planning, office moves, and minor renovation projects. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment inventories. Support emergency preparedness planning and respond to facility emergencies and provide after-hour support as needed. Assist with vendor selection, contract management, and service quality reviews. Assume responsibilities of the Sr Facility Manger in their absence including approving timesheets, PTO, and vacations. Qualifications for Position (Experience, Education and Licensure): Minimum (required): High school diploma or equivalent 5+ years of industrial facilities or maintenance experience, with supervisory/leadership experience preferred. Working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, water heaters, chilled water systems, and compressed air systems Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA) and building codes. EPA 608 refrigeration certification (Federal Refrigeration handling certification) Ammonia Refrigeration RETA CARO or CIRO certification preferred; ability to obtain required certification within an established timeframe. Strong working knowledge of industrial facility systems with the ability to troubleshoot facility and utility equipment and coordinate repairs. Proficiency with utilizing MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and CMMS systems Preferred (optional): Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field preferred Experience supervising industrial maintenance or custodial staff.
