This hands-on role is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the House, performing routine maintenance and general repairs, coordinating contractors and vendors, and supporting House Operations staff with room readiness, cleaning support, and overall guest environment excellence as needed. This team member helps ensure families can focus on their child's care by maintaining spaces that are safe, functional, clean, and comforting. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, service-minded, resourceful, and understands that every detail of the environment contributes to the family experience during difficult moments. Key Responsibilities Facilities Maintenance & General Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs throughout the House, including guest rooms, common areas, offices, kitchens, laundry areas, family spaces, exterior grounds, and family room needs located at Prisma Children's Hospital.
- Troubleshoot and resolve general maintenance issues involving lighting, plumbing fixtures, doors, locks, furniture, appliances, cabinetry, and other facility systems
- Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to proactively identify maintenance, appearance, safety, or functionality concerns
- Complete maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain maintenance logs, supply inventories, and repair documentation
- Support seasonal facility upkeep projects as needed Contractor & Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors, vendors, and service providers performing work onsite
- Schedule inspections, preventative maintenance visits, repairs, and service appointments
- Ensure vendors adhere to House expectations related to safety, professionalism, confidentiality, and guest experience
- Track service completion, invoices, and follow-up needs
- Assist leadership with obtaining repair estimates and vendor recommendations Guest Experience & House Operations Support
- Partner with House Associates and operations staff to prepare guest rooms between family stays, including room "flips" and readiness support
- Assist with deep cleaning efforts and housekeeping support during high-demand periods
- Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of shared family spaces, kitchens, lounges, laundry rooms, play areas, and outdoor spaces
- Respond quickly to urgent environmental or maintenance concerns impacting guest comfort or safety
- Support setup or breakdown for internal events, volunteer projects, or family programming as needed Safety & Compliance
- Help maintain a physically safe environment for guest families, staff, volunteers, and visitors
- Identify, address, and escalate facility hazards or urgent repair concerns immediately
- Support emergency preparedness efforts, fire drills, and safety compliance practices
- Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable facility, health, and safety standards Team & Mission Support
- Serve as an active, collaborative member of the RMHC Columbia team
- Interact with guest families in a warm, respectful, and compassionate manner, recognizing the stress many may be experiencing
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting evolving operational needs
- Model hospitality, accountability, professionalism, and mission-centered service QualificationsRequired
- 2+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, hospitality maintenance, property maintenance, building operations, or related work
- Ability to independently perform general maintenance and minor repair tasks
- Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, or service providers
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent reliability, professionalism, and teamwork
- Comfort working in a family-centered environment where compassion and discretion are essential Preferred
- Experience in nonprofit, hospitality, healthcare-adjacent, residential, lodging, or guest services environments
- Familiarity with facility safety procedures and emergency response practices
- Experience supporting housekeeping or room turnover operations Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach overhead, and complete physical maintenance tasks throughout the shift
- Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and cleaning equipment
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as needed Schedule
- Part-time position with a schedule of 25-30 hours per week, based on organizational needs
- Flexible scheduling aligned with operational priorities
