Job Title:
Forklift Operator Job Description The Material Handler / Side Loader Operator safely operates a 30,000‑lb capacity side loader and sit-down forklift to move small and large metal materials throughout a steel manufacturing facility. This role supports production by staging materials, loading machines, and maintaining an efficient material flow in a fast-paced metal manufacturing environment while upholding strict safety standards. Responsibilities Operate a 30,000‑lb capacity side loader to transport small and large metal materials throughout the facility. Use a sit-down forklift to move, load, and unload materials safely and efficiently. Stage raw materials and finished goods to support production schedules and machine loading. Load machines with the correct materials to ensure continuous and efficient production flow. Measure and verify materials using a tape measure to confirm correct sizes and quantities. Handle and move large pieces of steel, metal, copper, and brass with care and attention to safety. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility safety standards. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including the proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment. Communicate effectively with production and warehouse teams to coordinate material movement and prioritize tasks. Inspect equipment before use and report any issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel. Essential Skills Experience working in a warehouse environment. Hands-on experience operating a sit-down forklift. Ability to safely operate a 30,000‑lb capacity side loader or similar heavy material handling equipment. Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety procedures. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately. Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced metal manufacturing environment. Comfort working around large pieces of steel, metal, copper, and brass. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a steel or metal manufacturing facility is beneficial. Experience supporting production operations through material staging and machine loading is a plus. Strong communication skills to coordinate with production and warehouse teams. Ability to adapt to shift training and transition from first shift training to second shift work. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a steel manufacturing facility where you will work around large pieces of steel, metal, copper, and brass. Safety is the top priority, and you will follow strict safety procedures in all aspects of your work. The environment is non-climate-controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. This position is on second shift, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with training provided on first shift for approximately one month before transitioning to the regular schedule. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Acworth, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
