Job Description

Overview We are seeking an experienced Forklift Operator to support shipping and receiving operations in a manufacturing environment. This position involves loading, unloading, and handling fabricated materials that vary in size, shape, and configuration. This is not a traditional warehouse forklift position involving primarily palletized materials. The ideal candidate will have experience safely handling large, irregular, or non-traditional loads and understands how to position material properly for transport. Responsibilities Operate forklifts to load, unload, move, and stage fabricated materials. Determine the proper positioning and configuration of material on trailers. Safely handle materials of varying sizes, shapes, lengths, and weights. Check off materials as they are loaded and unloaded to verify loads. Identify materials and load numbers to ensure the correct items are being handled and shipped. Climb onto trailers as needed to inspect and verify loaded material. Take required photographs of loads for documentation. Install belly straps on loaded trailers as required. Complete shipping and receiving paperwork accurately. Coordinate with drivers and other employees during loading and unloading. Inspect the forklift before use and report equipment or safety concerns. Follow established safety procedures when working around trailers, equipment, and material. Qualifications Previous forklift experience required. Experience handling fabricated steel, structural components, long material, or other irregular loads strongly preferred. Ability to safely judge load balance, positioning, clearance, and material movement. Ability to identify materials and load numbers and accurately check items against paperwork. Comfortable climbing onto and working around flatbed trailers. Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work with limited supervision. Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions as required. Physical Requirements Ability to climb onto and off trailers throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; heavier items are handled with assistance as appropriate. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work around manufacturing and shipping areas. Ability to safely enter and exit forklift equipment repeatedly during the workday.
