Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement, storage, and shipment of raw materials, finished goods, and supplies throughout the facility. This role supports production, shipping, receiving, and logistics operations by ensuring materials are properly identified, transported, secured, and delivered to designated locations while maintaining compliance with safety procedures and operational standards. The Material Handler operates forklifts and other material-handling equipment, assists with parcel shipments and receiving activities, reports issues or discrepancies, and collaborates with logistics and supervisory staff to ensure smooth workflow and timely fulfillment of operational needs.Position Responsibilities:
Primary Job Duties:
- Identifies and transports requested materials to and from various locations including loading docks, railroad cars, trucks, and storage areas.
- Obtains shipping orders and then identifies, verifies, and transports requested raw materials, finished goods, equipment, or processing materials accordingly.
- Uses protective materials and strapping equipment to protect and secure loads; once delivered, removes strapping and wrapping, then safely disposes of waste materials in designated containers or areas.
- Reports any problems with materials or transportation to supervisor.
- Delivers finished goods, and other supplies to specified areas.
- Services equipment as needed, reporting mechanical or electrical difficulties to maintenance.
- Reports any issues to supervisor or higher-level employee.
- Picks, packs, and processes parcel shipments.
- Assists receiving department as needed.
- Assists Logistics Coordinator and Supervisor as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of related experience required as well as forklift experience Satisfactorily pass forklift driving training program and demonstrate safe handling of forklift in an on-site test.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.
- Ability to follow written instructions.
- Ability to follow proper safety protocols.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking and/or sitting.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
