Forklift Operator Job Description The Forklift Operator safely loads, unloads, and moves freight within a clean, modern facility while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting efficient warehouse operations. This role requires careful handling of materials, precise reading and decoding of freight information, and consistent attention to safety and cleanliness on the dock. Responsibilities Load inbound and outbound freight to and from vehicles and containers using appropriate equipment. Unload inbound and outbound containers and sort freight according to size, destination, and routing requirements. Read, decode, and decipher freight coding to support accurate freight movement and the tracing process. Reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests to ensure accurate documentation of shipments. Label, weigh, and dimensionalize freight to maintain precise records and support proper billing and routing. Record damaged shipments and misrouted freight on applicable reports and follow established procedures. Perform regular cleanup activities in the work area to maintain safety and cleanliness on the dock. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures while performing daily tasks. Perform all essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Skills Proven ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently. Experience with material handling in a warehouse or dock environment. Ability to read, decode, and decipher freight coding and shipment information. Skill in labeling, weighing, and dimensionalizing freight accurately. Capability to reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests and maintain accurate documentation. Attention to detail for recording damaged and misrouted freight on required reports. Ability to perform physical tasks, including loading, unloading, and sorting freight. Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean work area on the dock. Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a Forklift Operator. Experience as an Equipment Operator in a warehouse or distribution environment. Experience in inventory or material count responsibilities. Work Environment This role is based in a clean, modern warehouse and dock facility with a strong emphasis on safety and orderly operations. Work involves operating forklifts and material handling equipment and performing physical tasks such as loading, unloading, and sorting freight. Multiple shift options are available, including SunWed and WedSat schedules with 1st shift (6:00am4:30pm), 2nd shift (4:00pm2:30am), and 3rd shift (10:00pm8:30am), as well as a FriMon shift from 6:00am6:30pm. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, requiring reliable attendance and readiness to work the assigned shift Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Independence, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
