South-East Lumber Company is located in Kernersville, NC. With a pressure-treating plant and distribution center, the company inventories and distributes forest products to the retail building supply market. South-East Lumber Company is currently searching for Forklift Operators / Material Handlers to join our team! As a Forklift Operator / Material Handler, you will operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to safely move lumber, products, equipment, and materials throughout our facility and yard. You will also help maintain the quality and appearance of lumber products by cleaning, sorting, and preparing materials for shipment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors, learning to operate different types of equipment, and working as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Responsibilities:
Operate forklifts to safely move lumber, products, equipment, and materials throughout the facility and yard. Position forks, lifting platforms, or other lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transport loads to designated areas. Load and unload materials onto or from trucks, train cars, pallets, skids, or other lifting devices. Handle, stack, organize, and prepare lumber and other forest products for storage, treatment, or shipment. Inspect lumber and materials for dirt, debris, damaged pieces, or other issues and perform basic cleaning and preparation as needed. Operate other material handling equipment and machinery as trained and authorized. Assist with keeping work areas, equipment, lumber, and storage areas clean, safe, and organized. Follow all company safety procedures and maintain awareness of surroundings while operating equipment and handling materials. Work cooperatively with other employees to efficiently complete daily production and shipping activities. Perform other general material handling and yard duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced work environment in and around industrial machinery and material handling equipment. Noise levels vary and can be loud at times. Work is performed primarily outdoors and requires the ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions. Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, and handle lumber and other materials.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to safely operate forklifts and learn to operate other machinery and material handling equipment. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able and willing to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen. Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to workplace safety. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
