Job Summary This position is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of lumber, building materials, and other merchandise throughout Hamm Hardware's lumber yard and receiving areas. This position plays an important role in both our logistics operation and our customer service experience. Responsibilities include receiving and unloading incoming freight, stocking and organizing materials, pulling customer and delivery orders, loading customers and company delivery vehicles, and safely operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Employees in this position are expected to maintain an orderly and professional yard, protect merchandise from damage, ensure orders are accurate, and provide friendly, helpful service to every customer. Regular Duties Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment. Unload lumber, building materials, and merchandise from incoming trucks and vendor deliveries. Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, delivery tickets, manifests, or other receiving documents. Inspect incoming materials for shortages, damage, or other discrepancies and promptly report problems. Properly stock and store lumber, building materials, and merchandise in designated locations. Pull and stage customer pickup and delivery orders accurately and efficiently. Verify products and quantities before materials leave the yard. Load customer vehicles and trailers safely while taking reasonable precautions to prevent damage to the customer's vehicle, trailer, or merchandise. Load company delivery trucks according to delivery orders and instructions. Assist customers in locating, selecting, and loading lumber and building materials. Greet customers and provide friendly, professional assistance while they are in the yard. Keep lumber racks, storage areas, loading areas, aisles, and the general yard clean, organized, and accessible. Help maintain accurate inventory by properly receiving, stocking, moving, and identifying merchandise. Participate in inventory counts and product verification as needed. Inspect forklifts and other assigned equipment before use and promptly report safety concerns, damage, or mechanical problems. Follow company safety procedures when operating equipment, handling materials, loading vehicles, and working around customers and other employees. Use proper lifting and material-handling techniques. Help protect inventory from weather, damage, theft, and improper storage. Assist with general yard, warehouse, and logistics duties as needed. Physical Requirements This is an active, primarily outdoor position involving regular physical work.

Employees must be able to:

Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, push, and pull throughout the workday. Regularly lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Assist with heavier or awkward materials using another employee or appropriate equipment. Safely climb on and off forklifts and other equipment throughout the workday. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, sun, and light rain. Work around lumber, building materials, dust, dirt, equipment, trucks, and normal yard conditions. Qualifications Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work. Ability to safely operate a forklift or successfully complete company forklift training. Previous experience with lumber, building materials, forklifts, shipping and receiving, warehouse operations, construction, or similar work is preferred but not required. Ability to read order tickets, product descriptions, quantities, dimensions, and basic measurements. Basic math skills necessary to count and verify materials and quantities. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Strong attention to detail, particularly when pulling, receiving, and loading orders. Ability to work safely and productively with limited supervision. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, vendors, and delivery drivers. Willingness to assist customers and coworkers rather than waiting to be asked. Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Customer Service Expectations Every employee at Hamm Hardware contributes to the customer experience. Yard & Logistics employees are expected to acknowledge customers, offer assistance, help locate materials, accurately pull their orders, and assist with loading. Customers should never be left wondering where to go or who will help them. When practical, employees should escort customers to the material they need rather than simply pointing them in a direction.
