Job Description

Job Overview:
Alpha Iron LLC is seeking a reliable and experienced Forklift Operator to join our team at our structural steel fabrication shop. The Forklift Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts to move materials, products, and equipment within the facility. The role is critical to maintaining smooth production processes, ensuring that raw materials, finished goods, and supplies are handled and transported throughout the shop.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate forklifts to transport steel materials, finished products, and supplies within the fabrication shop. Assist shipping and receiving load and unload materials and finished products from trucks or pallets, ensuring safe and efficient handling. Assist in staging materials for production and fabrication. Assist in inventory control by logging materials; moving materials to designated storage areas. Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Assist with the organization and arrangement of materials and equipment to optimize workspace and productivity. Perform basic housekeeping duties, keeping the work area clean and organized. Assist with any additional tasks as directed by the supervisor or manager, including material handling or general labor work.
Qualifications:
1-3 years' experience operating forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse setting, preferably in a structural shop or similar environment. Certification and training in forklift operation preferred. Strong understanding of safety protocols and the ability to follow detailed safety instructions. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Basic computer skills needed for inventory logging. Flexible and willing to adapt to various tasks as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 60-90 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and crouch for long periods.
Working Conditions:
The role is based in a structural steel fabrication shop where temperatures may vary, and noise levels can be high. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, gloves, and safety glasses must be worn at all times. Alpha Iron classifies this job as safety sensitive, where working under the influence of drugs or alcohol increases risk of injury to self or others.
