Position Summary Nassau Humane Society (NHS) improves the lives of homeless animals in our community by providing them shelter and compassionate care. Our work focuses on adoption services, education about responsible pet ownership, and working to reduce animal overpopulation and homeless pets. The Development Manager is responsible for building and sustaining the fundraising program that supports Nassau Humane Society to provide shelter, medical care, enrichment, adoption services and second chances for animals in need. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Development Manager will manage a coordinated fundraising program that strengthens individual, monthly, corporate and community giving, along with major gifts, donor stewardship and special campaigns. This is a proactive role and needs a fundraiser who can build relationships and turn NHS's mission and impact into compelling opportunities for donors to support. The successful candidate will combine strong interpersonal and communication skills with disciplined follow-through, accurate recordkeeping and a clear focus on measurable revenue and engagement goals. Position Responsibilities Partner with the Executive Director to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan to support the delivery of the strategy. Build a balanced pipeline of prospective, new, current and lapsed donors, with clear strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and renewal. Grow individual, monthly, corporate and community giving through coordinated campaigns and individual engagement. Track fundraising performance against goals and recommend timely adjustments based on results, donor response and emerging opportunities. Create and maintain a consistent stewardship program, including timely acknowledgements, impact updates, recognition and personalized touchpoints. Coordinate donor tours, meetings, presentations and cultivation opportunities with the Executive Director, board members, staff and volunteers. Ensure donor intent, recognition preferences and confidentiality are accurately documented and honored. Support fundraising campaigns and events, including annual and seasonal appeals, Sip and Save Lives, BARKTOBERFEST, Parade of Paws and other approved initiatives. Conduct post-campaign and post-event analysis, including revenue, expenses, donor acquisition, retention and return on effort. Work with communications staff to develop donor-centered appeals, cases for support, proposals, impact reports, presentations and campaign materials that reflect the NHS brand. Maintain complete, accurate and timely donor and prospect records in the organization's designated donor-management system. Produce reports and reconcile fundraising information with Finance as required. Provide regular progress reports, forecasts and pipeline updates for the Executive Director, and prepare information for the Board as requested. Meet or make demonstrable progress toward annual revenue, donor acquisition, retention and goals established with the Executive Director. Maintain a current potential donor pipeline with the next steps and deadlines documented. Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, accountability and professional representation of NHS in every donor and community interaction. Collaborate respectfully across shelter operations, veterinary services, enrichment and training, animal control, the Dog Park and NHS Second Chance resale operations to communicate the full impact of the organization. Required Skills & Experience At least three years of successful fundraising, development, nonprofit relationship management, sales or comparable revenue-generating experience. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, make a clear and confident ask, and steward supporters over time. Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Strong project-management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently. High attention to detail and confidence working with donor databases, spreadsheets, budgets and performance reports. Discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential information and sensitive relationships. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and ability to attend meetings and events throughout the community. Preferred Skills & Experience Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Experience securing major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants or planned gifts. Experience with Bonterra or another donor relationship management platform. Knowledge of Nassau County and the Amelia Island philanthropic and business community. Experience in animal welfare or a strong understanding of the issues facing shelters and the people and animals they serve. Physical Requirements This is an office-based role. This position routinely uses a computer and telephone and requires extended periods of sitting, standing and communicating with others. The employee must be able to move throughout the shelter, retail, event and outdoor environments and occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds. This position may include weekdays and weekends based on needs. Flexibility is needed for this role.
