This position has primary responsibility for all non-event fundraising, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation support, grants, donor acquisition, donor retention, and stewardship. The Director of Development will build and manage a strong donor pipeline, develop long-term relationships with current and prospective supporters, and create strategies that increase philanthropic engagement revenue. The Director of Development, working with applicable team members, will ensure a coordinated approach to donor engagement, sponsorship, communications, and organizational growth. The Director of Development is accountable for establishing and achieving annual development goals and for providing leadership with meaningful reporting and analysis related to fundraising performance. General Responsibilities Develop, implement, and manage an annual development plan designed to achieve established fundraising goals. Lead all non-event fundraising strategies, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate giving, foundation support, grants, recurring giving, donor acquisition, and other contributed revenue opportunities. Establish annual fundraising goals, strategies, timelines, and key performance indicators in collaboration with the President. Identify new fundraising opportunities and develop short- and long-term strategies to increase philanthropic revenue. Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective donors, corporate partners, foundations, and other funding sources. Analyze fundraising performance and donor trends to identify opportunities for increased giving, retention, and engagement. Provide regular development reports, revenue projections, pipeline updates, and recommendations to organizational leadership. Monitor fundraising progress throughout the year and adjust strategies as necessary to achieved established goals. Major Gifts & Individual Giving Develop and manage a comprehensive major gifts program. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective and existing major donors. Build meaningful long-term relationships with donors and prospective supporters. Develop individualized donor strategies and stewardship plans based on donor interests, giving history, capacity, and engagement. Maintain an active portfolio of donors and prospects and ensure appropriate follow-up and relationship management. Develop strategies to increase donor retention, recurring giving, donor upgrades, and overall lifetime engagement. Partner with the President and Board members on major donor cultivation and solicitation when appropriate. Create meaningful opportunities for donors to understand the impact of their support and become more deeply connected to the Cal's Angels mission. Board & Donor Engagement Partner with Board members to strengthen fundraising efforts and increase Board participation in development activities. Provide Board members with appropriate information, resources, talking points, and support to serve effectively as organizational ambassadors. Identify opportunities for Board members to assist with donor introductions, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation. Work closely with the President and Board of Directors to cultivate and solicit major donors and strategic philanthropic partners. Provide development updates, fundraising results, pipeline information, and strategic recommendations to leadership and the Board as appropriate. Corporate & Foundation Development Identify and cultivate prospective corporate partners whose values and philanthropic interests align with the mission of Cal's Angels. Develop strategies to grow existing corporate partnerships and establish new relationships. Identify prospective private and corporate foundations that align with organizational programs and priorities. Research philanthropic trends and prospective funding opportunities within the corporate and foundation communities. Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate leaders, foundations, community organizations, and philanthropic partners. Collaborate with the Director of Special Events when corporate relationships include event sponsorship opportunities while maintaining an organization-wide view of the overall donor relationship. Grant Development Research and identify grant opportunities that align with Cal's Angels' mission, programs, and strategic priorities. Develop and maintain an annual grant calendar. Write and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, applications, and supporting materials. Coordinate with appropriate staff to gather program information, outcomes, financial information, budgets, and other materials required for grant submissions. Track grant applications, deadlines, awards, reporting requirements, and outcomes. Maintain relationships with foundation representatives and grantmaking organizations. Work with program and finance staff to ensure grant requirements, restrictions, and reporting obligations are understood and fulfilled. Donor Stewardship & Retention Develop and execute a comprehensive donor stewardship strategy. Create meaningful and consistent touchpoints throughout the donor lifecycle. Develop donor recognition and appreciation strategies appropriate to various giving levels and constituencies. Monitor donor retention, acquisition, upgrades, lapsed donors, and other key development metrics. Develop strategies to re-engage lapsed donors and strengthen relationships with existing supporters. Ensure donors receive appropriate acknowledgment, communication, recognition, and impact reporting. CRM Operations Maintain and oversee the organization's donor CRM as the primary system of record for development activity. Establish standards and processes for donor records, contact information, relationship tracking, cultivation activities, solicitation activity, and stewardship. Ensure significant donor interactions and relationship information are documented in the CRM. Analyze donor data to identify giving trends, prospective donors, retention opportunities, and areas for growth. Develop donor segmentation strategies to support targeted fundraising and communication efforts. Produce development dashboards and reports that provide meaningful insight into fundraising performance. Partner with Finance and Operations to ensure accurate reconciliation and reporting of gifts and contributed revenue. Organizational Support Serve as a collaborative member of the organization's leadership team. Develop strong relationships across departments and work collaboratively with organizational leaders to achieve strategic objectives. Demonstrate critical thinking and use data and analytics to support recommendations and decision-making. Embrace a mission-driven culture with ambitious but achievable organizational goals. Model high ethical standards, integrity, accountability, professionalism, and respect for staff, donors, volunteers, families, and community partners. Support the mission, vision, and values of Cal's Angels. Perform other duties reasonably related to the position as assigned. Requirements Demonstrated experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, business development, or a related field. Proven ability to build relationships with donors, corporate partners, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Experience developing and executing fundraising strategies. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, project management, and relationship-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems. Strong analytical skills and ability to use fundraising data to inform strategy. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments. High degree of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and emotional maturity. Experience with major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, or grant development. Experience working with nonprofit Boards and development committees. Experience managing a donor portfolio and moves-management process. Demonstrated history of achieving measurable fundraising goals. Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices, donor stewardship, and philanthropic trends. Success in this position will be demonstrated by sustained growth in philanthropic revenue, a stronger and more diversified donor pipeline, improved donor retention and engagement, expanded corporate and foundation relationships, effective Board participation in fundraising, disciplined use of the CRM, and the development of long-term relationships that strengthen Cal's Angels' ability to fulfill its mission.
