$59,421-$70,000 The Development Manager serves as a key member of the Development team responsible for advancing relationships with museum members, individuals, and corporate donors and prospects in support of the Eiteljorg Museum. The position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive giving program including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for a portfolio of 125-150 current and prospective donors. The Development Manager will inspire and secure philanthropic support that advances the museum's strategic priorities, with an emphasis on unrestricted giving, multi-year commitments, programs, exhibitions, and special initiatives. The position will also leverage museum exhibitions, programs, and annual events, including Quest for the West®, Indian Market & Festival, Dia de Muertos, and Jingle Rails, as opportunities to engage and deepen donor relationships. This position will be responsible for the submission of membership, major giving, and sponsorship solicitations. After documenting moves and commitments into the museum's constituent relationship database, the Development Manager will organize and execute all stewardship activities. These efforts will include benefit fulfillment, which will demand close collaboration with several departments across the museum. In addition, the Development Manager will assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics for the Development department's annual signature events. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of 125-150 individual, member, and corporate constituents through the full donor cycle, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Evaluating ongoing relationship statuses with donors and prospects Recommending specific purpose and level of gift relative to fundraising goals Identifying staff and volunteers to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation as appropriate Make a minimum of 20 moves per month by participating in all aspects of the gift cycle. Develop and execute strategies to secure major gifts and other philanthropic support, prioritizing unrestricted giving, multi-year commitments, programs, exhibitions, and special initiatives. Leverage museum exhibitions, programs, and signature events, including Quest for the West®, Indian Market & Festival, Dia de Muertos, and Jingle Rails, to create meaningful opportunities for donor engagement and giving. Prepare compelling, customized gift proposals, donor briefings, and other fundraising communications. Work alongside Communications and Marketing to produce high-quality materials and maintain a consistent brand identity. Provide proactive donor stewardship through formal reporting as well as thoughtful, ongoing communications with donors and prospects. Develop and deliver impact reports and other updates that demonstrate the value of philanthropic commitments as appropriate. Maintain accurate records of donor and prospect contacts, proposals, solicitations, commitments, and communications in Raiser's Edge to support planning, reporting, and analysis. Represent the museum at key external and corporate events in order to build new relationships and to spread awareness about the Eiteljorg's efforts to the larger community. Coordinate closely with museum departments to develop meaningful constituent engagement opportunities, including working with: Communications and Marketing staff to coordinate donor recognition and communications. Rentals and Events team to coordinate donor benefits and event participation. Gift Processing and Donor Database staff to maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and gift records. Other Curatorial and Public Programs staff to identify opportunities for donors to engage with exhibitions, programs, collections, artists, and related initiatives. Determine costs associated with portfolio and fundraising strategies and work with the Director of Development to ensure alignment with the larger Development budget. As part of the Eiteljorg team, provide the best visitor and donor experiences possible. Assist as needed during peak visitation, public programs, and special events. Contribute to Advancement, Development, and museum goals and initiatives as a valued member of the team. Qualifications Required Skills, Competencies, and Qualities:
Ability to develop and implement long-term and annual strategies within their portfolio that help the museum achieve its fundraising goals. Exceptional relationship management skills, with the ability to cultivate and deepen relationships, align their interests with the museum's priorities, and strategically advance them toward philanthropic support. Demonstrated experience developing and preparing professional fundraising materials, including proposals, solicitation documents, gift agreements, and stewardship materials. Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail as they balance manage portfolio responsibilities and fundraising deadlines effectively. Ability to develop revenue projections, monitor fundraising activity, and evaluate progress toward goals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with donors, prospects, members, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Experience using Raiser's Edge/NXT or similar constituent relationship management systems. Capacity to work collaboratively with various museum departments to foster a culture of philanthropy and strengthen donor engagement. Awareness of current trends and best practices in major gift fundraising, donor engagement, and museum operations.
Qualifications and Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree preferred. Three years of experience and demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, major gifts, or relationship-based development. Proficiency in Raiser's Edge/NXT or similar management software. Knowledge of the Indianapolis philanthropic and civic community preferred.
