Summary The Development Director leads and personally carries out CISBF's fundraising and development strategy as the organization's sole development professional. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this is a hands-on role for someone who can both build the plan and do the work: writing and managing grants, cultivating funders, designing fundraising campaigns and events, producing marketing and communications, and strengthening community relationships across Benton and Franklin Counties. Some development functions are supported by contracted or outsourced help, so you can focus your time on strategy and high-value fundraising rather than carrying out every task alone. We are looking for a creative fundraiser who will grow and diversify CISBF's funding streams. The Development Director will lead grant writing and reporting, deepen relationships with current funders and will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Associate Director in pursuing new foundation, corporate, government, and community partnerships that expand and sustain our mission. The ideal candidate combines the discipline of a strong grant professional, the imagination of a marketer, and the relationship skills of a community builder, and is excited to own and grow the development function. Key Duties Resource Development and Grants (60%)
  • Engage leadership, board members, and program staff in donor cultivation and solicitation as appropriate.
  • Collaborate across departments (Development, Programming, and Operations) to connect donor interests with affiliate priorities.
  • Serve as CISBF's lead grant writer and manager: research prospects, prepare and submit proposals, track deadlines and deliverables, and complete accurate, on-time grant reports.
  • Diversify and grow funding by identifying and pursuing new foundation, corporate, government, and community sources beyond CISBF's current base.
  • Design and lead creative fundraising campaigns, appeals, and sponsorship efforts that fit a grant-driven organization and expand earned and sponsored revenue.
  • Present to external groups, at CISBF all-staff meetings, and at selective events.
  • Carry an annual resource-development goal set with the Executive Director, and steward funders and donors toward renewed and increased support.
  • Plan and lead annual fundraising campaigns and events, including securing sponsorships and donations, and preparing event materials.
  • Manage the donor and funder database, including gift entry, acknowledgment letters, and relationship tracking. Marketing and Communications (20%)
  • Develop marketing tools and materials that advance resource-development priorities and strengthen the CISBF brand. Familiarity with using Canva, Adobe, and other design platforms.
  • Turn program data into compelling quantitative and qualitative content, collaborating with the program team to gather student and family stories using strengths-based storytelling and strict confidentiality.
  • Maintain the CISBF website and social media presence. Community Engagement and Outreach (15%)
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, businesses, civic groups, and volunteers that support fundraising and awareness.
  • Represent CISBF with a professional image at events, meetings, and stakeholder presentations across Benton and Franklin Counties, statewide, and nationally.
  • Coordinate with the national Communities In Schools network and the Washington state office to maximize opportunities. Administrative (5%)
  • Foster positive relationships with staff, board, and community, and contribute to a strong, collaborative internal culture.
  • Participate in weekly administrative meetings, once a month board and all-staff meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of donor information and comply with organizational privacy, ethics, and data-security policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in securing five- or six-figure gifts or comparable commitments, nonprofit development, relationship management, consultative sales, or a comparable field.
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and grant reporting, with a track record of secured awards.
  • Experience diversifying revenue and using creative fundraising approaches (for example, foundation, corporate, government, sponsorship, event, or campaign fundraising).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and with CRM or other donor databases and similar tracking/registration systems.
  • Working knowledge of marketing strategies in a nonprofit or similar setting, and the ability to align efforts with CISBF strategy.
  • Experience with desktop publishing, social media tools, and website platforms such as WordPress. Work collaboratively with social media contractor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, efficient, and detail and process oriented.
  • Analytical and creative, with a solution-focused approach in a changing environment.
  • Able to work independently, maintain focus through shifting priorities, and collaborate effectively within a small team.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel across Benton and Franklin Counties, statewide, and nationally.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Good sense of humor. Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, business, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Experience in public media, education, civic engagement, youth-serving or another mission-driven organization.
  • Knowledge of planned giving concepts and donor stewardship practices.
  • Event coordination experience with fundraising or large-scale celebrations.
  • Familiarity with the Benton-Franklin and Tri-Cities community and funder landscape.
