Job Description

Position Overview Scouting America New Hampshire provides life-changing experiences to young people through leadership development, outdoor adventure, character education, and service. Philanthropic support enables us to expand that impact and ensure Scouting remains accessible to young people and families throughout New Hampshire. The Director of Special Events & Annual Giving is a key member of the Development team responsible for leading and growing the Council's portfolio of fundraising events and annual giving programs. The Director develops and executes strategies that increase contributed revenue, expand donor participation, strengthen corporate and community partnerships, and create meaningful engagement opportunities for donors, volunteers, alumni, families, and community leaders. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position has direct responsibility for achieving established revenue and expense objectives associated with special events and annual giving while helping build a strong and sustainable culture of philanthropy. The successful candidate will be an energetic, results-oriented fundraising professional who combines strong relationship-building skills with disciplined execution, financial accountability, volunteer leadership, and a commitment to the mission of Scouting America. Key Responsibilities Special Events & Sponsorships
  • Lead the planning, execution, evaluation, and growth of the Council's portfolio of fundraising events.
  • Develop event strategies, revenue goals, expense budgets, timelines, sponsorship programs, and work plans.
  • Recruit and lead volunteer event chairs and committees.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate sponsors and community partners.
  • Evaluate existing events for profitability, mission impact, and growth potential while identifying opportunities for new revenue-producing events.
  • Ensure events provide an outstanding experience while effectively communicating the impact and mission of Scouting. Annual Giving
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual giving strategy designed to increase unrestricted revenue, donor participation, retention, and average gift size.
  • Manage direct-mail, digital, email, online, giving-day, and other annual solicitation campaigns.
  • Develop strategies for donor acquisition, renewal, reactivation, upgrading, and recurring giving.
  • Segment and engage donors, alumni, families, volunteers, and community supporters through targeted fundraising strategies.
  • Identify annual donors with the capacity and inclination for increased philanthropic engagement and coordinate appropriate cultivation with the Chief Development Officer. Donor, Corporate & Volunteer Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, sponsors, prospects, community leaders, alumni, and other stakeholders.
  • Cultivate and solicit assigned individual and corporate prospects.
  • Recruit, engage, and support high-impact volunteers who can expand the Council's fundraising capacity and community reach.
  • Equip volunteers with the strategies, materials, prospect information, and support necessary to successfully cultivate and solicit support.
  • Ensure donors and sponsors receive timely, meaningful, and professional stewardship. Revenue & Performance Management
  • Assume direct accountability for achieving assigned fundraising revenue goals and managing expenses within approved budgets.
  • Monitor fundraising performance, maintain accurate forecasts, and provide regular reports and analysis.
  • Track key performance indicators including donor retention, acquisition, average gift, sponsorship renewal, event profitability, and return on investment.
  • Maintain accurate donor, prospect, solicitation, sponsorship, and stewardship information within Council fundraising systems.
  • Use data and fundraising results to identify opportunities, address performance risks, and continuously improve results. Development Team & Communications
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to implement the Council's comprehensive development strategy.
  • Collaborate with Development, Finance, Marketing, Program, and other staff to advance fundraising objectives.
  • Coordinate event promotion, sponsorship materials, appeals, donor communications, and other fundraising collateral.
  • Support major-gift, capital, endowment, grant, and other development initiatives as appropriate.
  • Represent Scouting America New Hampshire professionally with donors, volunteers, businesses, and community partners.
  • Ensure fundraising activities adhere to organizational policies, applicable regulations, and accepted ethical fundraising standards. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, nonprofit management, fundraising, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, special events, annual giving, corporate partnerships, development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success planning and executing revenue-producing fundraising events.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and corporate sponsors.
  • Experience recruiting, motivating, and managing volunteer fundraising committees.
  • Proven ability and willingness to make both warm and cold approaches to prospective donors and sponsors.
  • Strong financial, analytical, organizational, and project-management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with direct mail, digital fundraising, online giving, donor segmentation, and fundraising CRM/database systems preferred.
  • Self-directed, goal-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable working in a performance-driven environment.
  • Ability to effectively engage staff, volunteers, donors, Board members, corporate leaders, and community stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and programs of Scouting America.
  • CFRE, CDE, or other relevant professional certification is desirable but not required.
  • This is a remote position based in New Hampshire. The Director of Special Events & Annual Giving must reside in New Hampshire and be available for regular in-person meetings, fundraising events, donor and sponsor visits, and other Council activities throughout the state.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the Council's service area.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for events and donor activities.
Compensation & Benefits Scouting America New Hampshire is committed to maintaining salary equity across our team. The anticipated salary range for this position is $55,000-$75,000, with an expected starting salary of approximately $65,000 . We recognize that exceptional candidates may bring qualifications, experience, and a record of achievement that warrant consideration beyond the anticipated range.
