YUMA COUNTY PEER PREVENTION SPECIALIST

The Opportunity The Yuma County Peer Prevention Specialist facilitates prevention education and early-intervention curricula for youth, parents, and faculty throughout Yuma County. This role participates in prevention coalitions, connects youth, parents, and faculty to community resources, and screens and refers youth to appropriate early-intervention supports. The position serves communities throughout Yuma County, including Yuma, San Luis, Somerton, Wellton, and Dateland. Yuma is the county seat and the county's largest population center. Candidates should be comfortable traveling throughout Yuma County to support schools, youth, families, and community partners. The Yuma County Peer Prevention Specialist serves as a positive role model to youth by demonstrating skills in personal recovery, healthy relationships, and healthy coping. This position assists in the development and delivery of prevention and early-intervention classes and workshops and collaborates closely with the LEA Project Manager to serve Yuma County. This position is 100% dedicated to the AWARE Arizona Project. What You'll Do Facilitate Prevention Education & Early Intervention Facilitate prevention education and early-intervention curricula for youth, parents, and faculty. Assist in the development and delivery of prevention and early-intervention classes and workshops. Apply knowledge of youth risk and protective factors, trauma-informed care, and developmentally appropriate learning practices. Collaborate closely with the LEA Project Manager to serve Yuma County. Connect Youth, Families & Faculty to Resources Identify and connect youth, parents, and faculty to appropriate community resources and supports. Screen and refer youth to early-intervention resources and services. Build supportive relationships with youth, families, schools, and community partners. Support access to behavioral health and substance-use prevention resources within Yuma County. Participate in Prevention Coalitions & Community Engagement Participate in prevention coalitions and community-based prevention activities. Engage youth, families, faculty, and community members around shared prevention and early-intervention goals. Represent AWARE Arizona and notMYkid professionally in schools, community settings, workshops, and coalition activities. Model Recovery, Resilience & Healthy Skills Serve as a positive role model to youth by exhibiting skills in personal recovery, healthy relationships, and healthy coping. Use peer-support skills to encourage connection, resilience, help-seeking, and access to appropriate resources. Communicate clearly and concisely in program documentation, participant communication, and coordination with the project team. What Success Looks Like Youth, parents, and faculty receive engaging prevention education and early-intervention programming. Youth and families are effectively connected to appropriate community resources and early-intervention supports. Prevention coalitions and community partnerships are supported through active participation and collaboration. Classes and workshops are delivered in a developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive manner. The Yuma County Peer Prevention Specialist consistently models recovery, healthy relationships, healthy coping, and positive support for youth and families. The LEA Project Manager and Yuma County Peer Prevention Specialist work collaboratively to meet the needs of the Yuma County. What We're Looking For High school diploma or GED required. Certified Peer Support Specialist preferred with a minimum of one (1) year of sobriety and six (6) months of behavioral health experience. PSS Certification available to be completed upon hire. Bachelor's degree in a health and human services-related field preferred. Public speaking experience preferred. Knowledge and familiarity with youth risk and protective factors and trauma-informed care. Knowledge of school-age youth mental health and substance-use prevention evidence-based practices; training is available upon employment. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate child and adolescent learning theory and adult learning theory. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Valid Arizona driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the assigned region and other service areas as needed. Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card. Negative TB screening upon hire. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus! Travel & Work Requirements Local travel within Yuma County is expected approximately 75% of the time. 100% fully dedicated to the AWARE Arizona Project. $19.23 - $26.44 per hour Expected hours: No more than 40.0 per week
