Job Summary The Development Associate works closely with the Development Director to support H.O.M.E., Inc.'s mission of serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness by assisting with fundraising coordination, communications, donor stewardship, and special events. This position works under the direction of the Development Director and the Executive Director to strengthen and expand H.O.M.E.'s development activities, build community support, and ensure the sustainability of essential programs, including shelters, food services, childcare, craft studios, and housing support. The Development Associate is responsible for assisting with grant preparation, donor relations, event coordination, and communication efforts that advance H.O.M.E.'s mission. The role requires strong writing skills, attention to detail, organization, and the ability to build positive relationships with donors, volunteers, partner organizations, and community members.
Responsibilities:
The Development Associate will assist with:
- Maintaining a calendar of grant deadlines, reporting dates, and funding opportunities.
- Preparing grant applications, letters of inquiry, and funder reports.
- Tracking awarded grants, reporting requirements, and progress toward deliverables.
- Conducting background research to support proposal development.
- Developing social media content to support fundraising campaigns, events, and community engagement.
- Donor Stewardship, Sponsorships & Communications
- Preparing donor acknowledgements and renewal letters.
- Managing donor and sponsor mailing lists and records.
- Assist in cultivating donor relationships.
- Updating website and newsletter content.
- Event Planning & Community Engagement, including major fundraising campaigns.
- Coordinating donor gatherings and outreach activities.
- Responding to public inquiries.
- Represent H.O.M.E. at community events.
- Provide administrative support. Experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for donor outreach, grants, and public-facing materials
- Event planning and coordination skills, including managing logistics and timelines.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Relationship-building skills with donors, volunteers, partners, and community stakeholders
- Proficiency with donor databases, basic marketing tools, and Microsoft office suite.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively - with commitment to H.
O.M.E.'s mission.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Two years of nonprofit development experience preferred.
- Experience with grant writing or communications preferred.
