Due to grant funding requirements and guidelines, priority will be given to applicants that are women of color. Chuma is a collaborative initiative of the Free Store of Kalamazoo and Sunnyside United Methodist Church.

The Goals of Chuma include:

1. Participate in a learning environment which fosters personal and institutional identity development among participants 2. Build and grow basic life skills in participants 3. Facilitate leadership development among participants to build the ability to communicate across social identities and gain access to new spaces of leadership 4. Build a collective of women of color aligned in their work Chuma features: a work component at the Free Store of Kalamazoo monthly empowerment and support meetings covering a wide range of topics, including financial literacy and life skills for women of color trips to build understanding of their heritage Participants receive a complimentary meal at monthly gatherings Work component: Mondays from 11 am

• 3 pm Tuesdays from 2 pm
• 8 pm Wednesdays from 11 am
• 3 pm Beginning pay $16.75/hour Applications by September 18, interviews to begin the week of September 21. There is a monthly meeting, usually held on the second Saturday of the month, from 10
• noon, where Chuma holds their group discussions over lunch.
