Job Summary The Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation is looking for a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Early Childhood Literacy Specialist. This role is a great opportunity for an early childhood educator and/or early literacy specialist to implement the Literacy in Early Learning Spaces initiative at The Free Library of Philadelphia. This initiative partners with infant, toddler and PreK teachers to support their early literacy classroom practices. This is a 14-month grant funded full time position. You will join a highly collaborative team of three other full time Early Childhood Literacy Specialists, as well as the Project Director and Assistant Director, who all launched this initiative in 2018. The start date of this position is November 2, 2026 and runs through the current end of funding, December 31, 2027. This role does require the ability work occasional evenings (5-6 total, all in spring 2027) and Saturdays (4-5 total, all half days). Successful applicants must submit proof of required background clearances prior to hire date. The position is an onsite position. Responsibilities Provide technical assistance coaching for teachers in childcare facilities to enhance early literacy and language development in their Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms Co-present virtual professional development workshops focused on modeling best practices for early childhood (birth-5 years) educators Communicate verbally and in writing in both English and Spanish for the purposes of coaching, facilitating Professional Development, Family Engagement events, as well as emails, text messages and phone calls Assist in hosting family engagement opportunities at partner childcare programs Assist in hosting family engagement opportunities at neighborhood libraries Build strong and trusted relationships with partner childcare teachers and directors Cultivate and maintain partnerships and communication with childcare facilities, children's and family service agencies, and FLP children's librarians Visit childcare programs to assess needs and gather input from educators Implement research-based assessment tools of early childhood facilities Gather, maintain, and share qualitative and quantitative data for grant reporting Deliver materials, such as books, flyers, and classroom literacy materials to partner childcare programs, as needed. Experience and Qualifications Bachelor's degree and Early Childhood teaching experience required, or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience Fluency in Spanish Experience with conducting workshops, events, Professional Development sessions, or other in-depth programs in Spanish, with Spanish-speaking children, families and teachers Knowledge of Philadelphia's early learning landscape and needs of early childhood educators Knowledge of early childhood development, early literacy, and children's literature Knowledge of developmentally appropriate literature and early literacy activities Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills Skill and Competencies Ability to present to groups Strong organizational skills Knowledge and ability to model research-based story time techniques that promote early literacy skill development Ability to develop positive, productive relations with people in the community Ability and initiative to work independently Familiarity and comfortability with using online conference platforms (such as Zoom) Travel Ability to travel to and from multiple childcare facilities within Philadelphia Physical Capabilities The physical requirements listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Pay:
