Job Description

Strategies for International Development (SID) Washington, DC (Hybrid) About the Organization Strategies for International Development (SID) helps poor farmers graduate from poverty by building successful family-farm businesses. This includes conserving the land upon which their businesses depend and helping women play an equal role in building these businesses. SID works in Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Guatemala. In recognition of its impact, SID received the 2016 National Coffee Association (NCA) Charity of the Year Award for its contributions to the livelihoods of coffee farmers at origin. SID is supported primarily by U.S.-based foundations and individual donors. As we enter a new phase of growth, we are seeking to expand our funding base through larger, multi-year grants and increased unrestricted support. Position Summary SID is looking for a Development Officer to lead and implement our fundraising strategy. This is a part-time, individual contributor role requiring approximately 20-25 hours per week, focused primarily on securing foundation support while also contributing to the growth of individual donor engagement. The Development Officer will play a critical role in expanding SID's revenue, with a goal of increasing funding by 30% within the first year. This includes building relationships with new institutional funders, strengthening existing partnerships, and advancing opportunities for multi-year and unrestricted funding. Key Responsibilities Identify, cultivate, and secure funding from foundations, with an emphasis on multi-year grants Conduct outreach, meetings, and presentations to prospective and current donors Represent SID at conferences and donor events to build and strengthen partnerships Develop and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, as appropriate Central Office staff will support the Development Officer with all the materials, information, and contacts needed. They will also participate in presentations and edit proposals as needed. Qualifications Demonstrated commitment to reducing rural poverty in developing countries Significant experience in fundraising, particularly with foundations and grant writing Proven ability to secure institutional funding, including multi-year grants Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently Self-directed, goal-oriented, and proactive in donor engagement Experience using social media or digital tools in a professional context is a plus Education Bachelor's Degree Required Location and Travel This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC. The role requires periodic travel for donor meetings and conferences. Compensation Part-time position (approximately 20-25 hours per week) with a salary of $48,000.
