About Open Path Resources Open Path Resources (OPR) is a Minnesota-based nonprofit rooted in Cedar Riverside, Minneapolis — one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States. Since 2012, OPR has partnered with East African immigrant families, faith communities, and civic institutions to build community capacity, improve health outcomes, advance educational opportunity, and strengthen democratic participation. Our work is principle-driven, community-led, and grounded in the belief that healthy communities are built from within. OPR operates in deep partnership with the Islamic Civic Society of America (ICSA) through intercultural and interfaith activities that engage the full diversity of our communities. Position Overview OPR seeks a skilled and mission-aligned Fund Development and Grant Writing Specialist to anchor our resource development strategy. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) role for a professional who brings both the technical capacity to pursue and manage grants at the $500,000+ annual portfolio level and the cultural fluency to represent OPR's mission compellingly to a wide range of funders. The ideal candidate understands immigrant and refugee communities — and East African communities in Minnesota in particular — and can translate OPR's history, values, and programmatic depth into persuasive, relationship-driven fund development. Grant writing is a central skill, but this role is fundamentally about building and sustaining the funder relationships and organizational narrative that make grants possible. Key Responsibilities Fund Development Strategy Serve as a part of the OPR leadership team - prepare for, attend, and follow up from weekly meetings, Work with OPR leadership to implement an annual fund development plan aligned with OPR's programmatic priorities and organizational growth goals Cultivate and steward relationships with foundation program officers, government funders, and individual major donors Maintain and keep OPR leadership team involved in a grants calendar and pipeline tracking system to manage deadlines, reporting, and renewals Identify new funding opportunities aligned with OPR's focus areas in health equity (targeting work in mental health and addiction medicine), civic engagement, education, and interfaith community development Grant Writing and Reporting Research, write, and submit competitive grant proposals to government agencies, private foundations, and corporate funders Prepare accurate and compelling interim and final grant reports in accordance with funder requirements as they come due Ensure that grant narratives authentically reflect OPR's community voice, mission, and programmatic impact Collaborate with OPR leadership and program staff to gather data, stories, and evidence of outcomes Communications and Organizational Storytelling Contribute to donor-facing communications including appeal letters, impact reports, and organizational profiles Support OPR's public presence by helping frame the organization's story for new audiences and partnerships Assist with messaging that reflects OPR's interfaith, cross-cultural, and community-driven values Qualifications Required Minimum four years of professional experience in nonprofit fund development, with demonstrated success managing a grant portfolio of $500,000 or more annually Proven track record of securing competitive awards from private foundations, government agencies, and/or corporate funders Sophisticated written communication skills: ability to translate complex organizational history and community context into compelling, funder-ready narratives Experience developing and implementing fund development strategy, not solely executing individual grant applications Deep familiarity with Minnesota's philanthropic landscape, including major foundations, state and county government grant-making, and community development funders Strong organizational and project management skills: ability to maintain a multi-funder pipeline, manage concurrent deadlines, and report accurately to leadership Genuine commitment to OPR's mission and communities, grounded in an understanding of immigrant and refugee civic life in the United States Strongly Preferred Direct experience working with or within East African immigrant communities in Minnesota Knowledge of healthcare systems, health equity frameworks, or public health grant-making Experience with faith-rooted institutions, civic leadership organizations, or community organizing contexts Familiarity with federal grant processes (e.g., HRSA, SAMHSA, OJP, ACF) in addition to state and private foundation funding Proficiency in grants management software or CRM tools (e.g., Submittable, Fluxx, Salesforce, Foundation Directory Online) Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree or CFRE credential a plus but not required Compensation and Benefits This is a part-time position at 0.6 FTE (approximately 24 hours per week).
