We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented contract Grant Writer to drive our mission forward through compelling proposal development and strategic grant management. In this role, you will be responsible for researching funding opportunities, crafting persuasive grant proposals, and managing the entire grant submission process. Your expertise will help secure vital funding from foundations, government agencies, and other sources to support our programs and initiatives. This position offers flexible engagement for professionals passionate about nonprofit work, fundraising, and community development, with a focus on delivering impactful results through excellent writing and organizational skills. Contract hours will vary and can range from no hours per week to 15-20 hours per week depending on the project. Must have applicable business licensing, taxation set-up, and other equipment requirements to provide services as an independent contractor (this is not an employee position).
Deliverables include:
-Grant Research and Identification Research and identify grant opportunities that align with JJAB programs, services, strategic priorities, and funding needs. Identify opportunities for which JJAB may serve as the applicant, fiscal agent, or partner. In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop an annual grants strategy. Present recommended grant opportunities to JJAB leadership for consideration prior to beginning an application. -Development and Submission Prepare complete, accurate, and competitive high-quality, compelling grant applications, including narratives, supporting documentation, budgets, and other required materials in coordination with JJAB staff. Submit approved grant applications by established funder deadlines. Maintain a grant calendar that tracks prospective opportunities, application deadlines, award notifications, reporting requirements, and other key dates. -Partner Coordination Identify and engage appropriate community or program partners during the planning and grant development process. Coordinate with partners to obtain required information, commitments, letters of support, budgets, data, and other application materials. Establish internal deadlines that allow sufficient time for JJAB and partners to review and approve materials prior to submission. -Training and Professional Development Attend grant-related training, technical assistance, or informational sessions when requested by JJAB or when necessary to successfully complete an application or reporting requirement. -Meetings and Communication Provide presentations or additional grant-related information to the Board or JJAB staff as requested. Maintain regular communication with the Executive Director regarding grant opportunities, deadlines, submissions, awards, and reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in grant proposal writing within nonprofit or community organization settings. Strong understanding of contracts, contract management, and grant funding regulations. Excellent research skills to identify new funding opportunities across government agencies and foundations. Demonstrated ability to craft persuasive proposals with compelling case development and strategic storytelling. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Familiarity with nonprofit community organizations' operations and fundraising strategies within Los Alamos, NM is highly desirable.
