Are you a leader who can motivate people, bring out their best, and hold them accountable to high standards? 5 Cities Swim School is looking for a confident, driven General Manager to lead our Arroyo Grande location. This is an opportunity to take real ownership of a business operation—not simply keep it running. The General Manager is accountable for the location's people, performance, growth, customer experience, instructional quality, safety, and overall results. We're looking for someone who creates an upbeat, high-performing environment where people enjoy coming to work, know what's expected of them, are recognized when they perform, and are held accountable when they don't. What You'll Own Lead, motivate, and develop the team , creating a culture of positive energy, high expectations, accountability, and results. Drive performance. Set expectations, monitor results, coach for improvement, recognize strong performers, and address underperformance directly. Lead and develop the Assistant Manager, Aquatics Manager, and Office Manager, giving them clear ownership and holding them accountable for results. Drive enrollment growth and swimmer retention through strong execution and an exceptional family experience. Use KPIs and performance metrics to identify gaps, solve problems, and improve results. Oversee staffing, scheduling, and payroll efficiency. Maintain expert knowledge of the swim curriculum and ensure consistent lesson quality, swimmer progression, and instructional standards. Teach 1-2 swim instruction shifts per week to stay connected to instructors, swimmers, families, and lesson quality. Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop employees while building a strong leadership pipeline. Build strong relationships with families and confidently resolve escalated concerns. Anticipate problems and opportunities and take action rather than waiting for direction. Improve systems and processes so the organization can execute consistently without requiring you to personally manage every task. Maintain high standards for safety, certifications, training, and company requirements. Partner with ownership on growth opportunities and continuous improvement. What We're Looking For Required 3-5 years of operations, service, retail, recreation, fitness, aquatics, or comparable management experience Demonstrated success leading teams and improving employee performance Experience coaching employees and holding people accountable Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Confidence making decisions independently Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment Experience using KPIs or performance metrics to drive results Passion for customer service, leadership, and youth development Ability to work 40 hours per week, five days per week Availability until 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and at least one weekend day per week Ability to obtain and maintain required lifeguard and company certifications Preferred Aquatics, swim school, recreation, fitness, or hospitality leadership experience Experience developing managers and future leaders Background in swim instruction, lifeguarding, or aquatic operations Experience managing payroll budgets and labor planning Multi-department or multi-unit leadership experience This Isn't a Desk Job The General Manager is a visible, hands-on leader who moves between the office, pool deck, employees, swimmers, and families throughout the day. You'll spend significant time observing performance, coaching employees, solving problems, communicating expectations, and interacting with families. You must be comfortable working in an indoor aquatic environment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and responding quickly when situations require leadership.
