Job Requirements
POSITION SUMMARY
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by supporting the operational, financial and strategic performance of one or more service lines or business units and their associated departments. Provides leadership, planning and direction to ensure business objectives, operational/efficiency metrics and financials goals are achieved. Oversee charge capture process, OR scheduling function, financial analysis and capital budget process within Surgical Services, including inpatient and ambulatory surgical sites. Works collaboratively with the respective Vice President(s) and other members of the Leadership Team, including physicians, to assess and monitor performance to key operating targets.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Engagement:
Demonstrates support and compliance with the Health System's mission, vision, value philosophy, goals, objectives and policies and procedures. Participates in pertinent departmental in-services and staff meetings. Respects the patient's rights, under state law to strict confidentiality concerning the condition, care and treatment. Accepts responsibility and accountability for continual development of personal skills, professional growth and assists others with the same. Supervises support staff as assigned by the Administrator of Surgical Services. Engages with Surgical Services operations team and leadership to accomplish aligned goals and initiatives.
Quality/No Harm:
Participates in the value analysis and purchase of new supply items process. Serves as the IDN content expert and works collaboratively with SYUS system administrators to ensure efficient and effective data is available for reports and decision-making. Analyzes trends in market share and demand, primary service area needs, physician preferences and clinical practice. Applies trending data to develop short and long term action plans to enhance or maintain department profitability and achievement of departmental/hospital/division and IDN goals as appropriate. Collects and presents data and analytical reports to hospital executives, departmental leaders and OR Committee to help measure department performance. (E.g. efficiency metrics, volume reports, profitability analysis, etc.) Develops process improvement procedures and ensures strategic alignment of data reporting to address inefficiencies in operations administration of operating room.
Stewardship:
Responsible for coordinating the billing process for all operating room and endoscopy suite procedures to guarantee batching and posting of charges within 72 hours of service date. Prepares analysis of surgical services variance reports to monitor expenses, programmatic profitability and maximize reimbursement. Perform cost benefit analysis for new requests. Identifies and develops initiatives to continually drive down costs. Provides operational decision support for key operating room utilization and efficiency metrics. Works directly with surgeons to monitor, grant and remove block time. Supervises and coordinates annual inventory in conjunction with Supply Chain and the Finance Department Develops pro-formas to support capital equipment requests and new business endeavors. Prepares annual capital requests for the Operating Room, Endoscopy Suite, Anesthesia and ASC's in coordination with the appropriate operational and service line leaders. Establishes appropriate peer group comparisons and benchmark targets to ensure productivity management. Assists in development of projected staffing models to ensure adequate resources are available to meet actual volume targets. Active participant of the OR Committee and the Robotics Steering Committee.
Customer Experience:
Serves as the liaison between system supply chain and product vendors for trials, product issues, implementation, and operational outcomes. Ensures timely and appropriate responses to requests for information and support. Acts as a key resource for all operational, efficiency and financial metrics within surgical services platform. Mentors and provides training and assistance to direct reports, peers and customers as necessary. Work Experience
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in health management, business or related field required. Master's degree preferred Two to Four (2-4) years' management experience in a relevant professional and clinical environment in a progressively responsible role is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be in good physical condition and without assistance must be able to lift, move or push equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to sit for two hours or more before a computer and concentrate on complex projects. Able to travel to any work location within Health First on short notice. Must be able to stand for two hours or more while observing work tasks.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Must create a positive, enabling work environment. Must be able to manage multiple complex projects to successful completion through positive collaboration with the leadership team, physicians and associates. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully accomplish work tasks and challenges in an environment with multiple stressors. Must be capable of consistently juggling multiple assignments/priorities and handle a demanding work schedule Must be able to analyze and interpret data and use Lean/Quality improvement tools. Must have expertise in developing, coaching and mentoring leaders at all levels. Must have strong interpersonal and conflict management skills. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Visio. Benefits
