Job Description

Micro-Cap Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a growing national transportation data services company seeking an experienced Area Manager to lead and grow operations across an assigned multi-state territory. Our client provides traffic data collection services to transportation agencies, engineering firms, and municipalities throughout the United States. This is a highly visible leadership role combining operations management, team leadership, client relationship management, and business development . The Role The Area Manager will take ownership of overall performance within an assigned territory, overseeing existing operations while driving continued growth and expansion. This individual will manage both the operational and client-facing sides of the business—ensuring projects are executed successfully, developing and supporting area employees, maintaining strong relationships with existing customers, and identifying opportunities to grow the client base. The ideal candidate is a high-energy, hands-on leader who is comfortable managing people, operations, and customer relationships and who takes ownership of results. Key Responsibilities Business Development & Client Management Manage and grow an established client base throughout the assigned territory Develop new client relationships through proactive outreach, industry involvement, and strategic networking Serve as a primary regional contact for customers Identify opportunities to expand market presence and increase revenue Participate in client meetings and the sales process while maintaining strong relationships with existing customers Operations Leadership Oversee regional operations, including resource planning, project execution, and field activities Ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, and to high-quality standards Manage area staffing, schedules, equipment, resources, and other operational requirements Partner with internal teams to improve workflows and overall area performance Hire and develop key employees across operations and client-facing functions Team Leadership & Development Lead and support area employees, including performance management, staffing, and payroll oversight Build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture Coach and develop employees and frontline leaders Drive employee engagement and establish clear expectations for performance Field Operations & Support Complete comprehensive training on company equipment, processes, and industry practices Develop a strong working knowledge of traffic data collection methods and field operations Provide hands-on support to field teams when necessary Work closely with regional leadership, operations management, client management, field leadership, and technicians to ensure successful execution Qualifications Experience in operations management, team leadership, business development, or a combination of these areas Proven ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment Strong leadership presence with the ability to manage both people and processes Client-facing and commercially minded, with the ability to retain existing business while developing new relationships Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a confident, professional client presence High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Strong ownership mentality with accountability for results Adaptable and solutions-oriented with the ability to remain composed under pressure High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism Valid driver's license required Travel & Work Environment This is a hands-on regional leadership position requiring regular interaction with clients, employees, and field operations. Approximately 50% travel is expected throughout the assigned territory for client meetings, industry events, operational oversight, and field support. Occasional travel to neighboring markets may also be required.
