Job Description

PURPOSE:
The Camp Director is responsible for the overall camp experience, overseeing all other departments of the Hope Conference and Renewal Center in accordance with the adopted policies of the Camp Hope Board of Management.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The Camp Director must be at least 25 years old. A B.A. or equivalent degree or appropriate professional certificate is required. Knowledge, skills, and experience should be appropriate for a professional employee serving in the capacities of an executive director. A well-qualified candidate will possess leadership qualities which exhibit a personal commitment to Christian faith and life and a general acquaintance with and appreciation for the Moravian Church. Applicants need not be a member of a Moravian congregation, but Moravians are especially encouraged to apply. New Jersey Youth Camp Safety Standards 8:25-3.2 Staff (a) Each youth camp shall employ a camp director that is at least 21 years of age and has one of the following qualifications: 1. At least two seasons of administrative experience in an organized certified camp; 2. Nine months verified experience in a youth program; or 3. One season of administrative experience in an organized certified camp and at least one year teaching experience with a teacher certification.
COMPENSATION
$45-55,000 commensurate with experience.
TIME OFF
14 personal days, with approval from the Chair of the Board of Management
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Camp Director is responsible for all aspects of the facility. The Camp Director should be visible and involved during summer camps and other programs, representing the Moravian "face" of the camp. The Director hires, trains and oversees summer-long staff, manages ACA accreditation and requirements, and oversees all camp administration. The Camp Director is also in charge of hospitality, marketing and camp public relations in cooperation with the Board of Management and relevant committees. The Camp Director oversees a year-round Property Manager and an Office Administrator. Work hours are somewhat flexible; some weekends required, especially during the summer season, unless appropriate coverage has been arranged.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Recruiting and hiring all summer staff
  • Supervising Office Administrator and Property Manager
  • Being on call in case of emergency
  • Monitoring accreditation certification and licenses
  • Scheduling all camps, events, rental groups
  • Maintaining accounting and financial records
